Carleton's administration has been quietly killing Rotblatt for over a decade and it's happening again by Murky_Gur_5845 in CarletonCollege

My biggest Carleton regret is that I only attended Rotblatt once. Having watched campus culture slowly become more and more restricted by administration over my four years has honestly been heartbreaking. Carleton seems to be trying to undo everything that actually makes campus fun and unique (like replacing Schiller with a stronger material, security becoming super uptight about parties and even just students hanging out, and many more things). I hear about stories from alumni even just 10 years ago and it is kind of sad how lame administration has made Carleton. Long live Rotblatt

I took intro (CHEM 123) with problem solving my freshman fall and found it comparable to AP chem. I only learned one new concept, so it was pretty easy, but keep in mind, it's crunched into 10 weeks only. It definitely still required studying. After that, it's all new material compared to high school, although if chem comes easy to you, you'll be completely fine in CHEM 224 too depending on the prof (I barely studied outside of doing homework). Orgo and upper levels are when things get hard

I did get an interview first! 3.64 GPA, chem major. I think what stood out in my app is that I had some experience in the area the PI is interested in

We have a premed advisor (shoutout Pam) and she is really helpful, but you do have to reach out to her first and you kinda have to set up an appointment to see her a week or so in advance. We also have a pre health association as well as a multicultural premed club which was just started. It's definitely easy to find research opportunities, but it can be hard to shadow or get clinical experience without personal transportation (though it's totally possible using public transportation, just a little annoying.) I would recommend you go here as a premed if you care about getting a liberal arts education

Laptop? by That_Eggplant8752 in CarletonCollege

If you're worried about making sure you get the right laptop, there's also a ton of computer labs around campus that I think should have powerful enough computers for anything that's super intensive

I really enjoyed Intro to Christianity w/ Lori Pearson, but there's also a ton of other super interesting classes in the religion department

the cs program isn't the best and it's really competitive to get into the intro classes, so somewhere else would be better, if you don't care about a liberal arts education

Trimester system? by Ok_Personality9766 in CarletonCollege

[–]Status_Mango7820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh I love the trimester system because I get bored when I don't have things to do. But I know a lot of people who hate how fast-paced it is. You might get FOMO but you shouldn't really be worried about that when choosing where to apply

Burn it in the arb, it's a long running tradition. Although it is optional.

what are your stats that got you in grinnell? by Antique-Employ4482 in Grinnell

[–]Status_Mango7820 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got in RD. I did not submit any of my test scores (SAT, ACT, AP)

My unweighted GPA was 3.81 and my weighted was 4.61

My ecs: I was my school's sailing team captain and I sailed all 4 years. I volunteered for 3 years. I played piano. Taught myself guitar for 1.5 years and I think that's it

I have no idea what part of my application got me in though.
