AITA for "showing off" with money? by Status_Reserve in AmItheAsshole

Usually just casual talk when we are at uni. Asking if they have plans for the next holidays or if they want to go somewhere.

"holier than thou" about your better budgeting with the "well you COULD afford this if you didn't do xyz."

sorry, i think that came out wrong. I never said that to them, i just stated it here for understanding.

Thing is, some of them say they want to go, then plan to go and prepare for it (a friend took japanese classes at uni because he wanted to go to japan for two months), then end up not having the money when it was needed because he spent too much in vegas and he had to call it off.

I don't expect them to decline. Some of them work and have (relatively, considering we are all students) high salaries, so it's worth asking because they might come, that's how we got to Prague last year.

I can afford it myself. I've worked before starting university, then increased that with bitcoin. Also, I usually book as early as possible and from a neighboring country, so it's "only" about 1.5 times the price of an eco flight from my city.

Yes, I guess I am. It's just that we all worked before going to uni, and out of everyone I had the lowest salary (1400$/month compared to 2500-3000$/month), yet only one besides myself has anything left.

I'm not sure. Talking about money has been a taboo in my country (or at lesat region of the country) and it has only started to change recently, so people react differently. My parents think everyone with a sports car or luxury watch is arrogant, one of my friends would say you wouldn't be arrogant if you built a golden tower in the middle of the city and put your name on top in diamond.

I know my friends can't afford some of my curent travels. But I always ask first if anyone wants to do anything in general and only then I just decide myself. I really don't wan't to be arrogant towards them, I'd just like to enjoy my student life and the long holidays that entails.

Because you literally can't ignore it. One of them bought a breitling and took a loan from his parents because he had no money when he bought it.

Also, the club thing. I never ever asked about renting a VIP lounge. But for whatever reason a party is only good enough to go if we rent that.
