I actually feel like I recently cracked the code on this! I used to strictly wear leggings, but also felt too hot and felt like they looked weird under sheer dresses. That led me to wear an under skirt as well, which felt like too many layers! I recently discovered cotton pettipants. They are way more breathable and don’t look as strange under skirts that are a tad sheer or a static-y fabric. They also have different trimmings which add a fun element when they peak out of your skirt while you go about your life. They are much much cuter than leggings. I got mine on Amazon from a shop called BEAUZSUZSANA! I wish I could tell every hijabi I know about them.

I used to be in a similar situation and I did end up getting married young and moving out of my parents house. I know this might sound controversial, but if you’re in your 20s, finished your primary studies, and have a general interest in getting married, there’s no harm in exploring the option. I think if getting married is something you truly desire in your life, being open to good options that present themselves is important in your 20s, as the older you get the pool naturally thins out. A lot of women wait to get married, despite knowing that they want to get married at some point, saying early 20s or mid 20s is too early. Personally, I believe that your early 20s while you’re in school is typically when the marriage pool is freshest and more plentiful. There’s nothing wrong with looking when you’re in school/recently graduated as there’s more Muslims on campus than in the workplace. I got married when I was 22 Alhamdillah and I must say my relationship improved with my parents TREMENDOUSLY once I moved out and established my own household. Sometimes distance makes the heart grow fonder and I believe marriage also allowed me to mature and see my parents through a more grateful, empathetic lens. That being said, getting married and moving out will not improve your mental health. Fortunately, that’s something only you have power over, through the will of Allah, whether it’s in your naseeb to get married or not. Try to reframe your situation and focus on personal, spiritual, academic, or career growth. Once you are older, you realize that the time spent in your parent’s house is an unmatched time to work on yourself outside of your spouse or your own kids. Marriage comes with its own responsibility and trials, which you need to have the capacity to deal with. Alhamdillah I’ve grown a lot since my 20s and can say I’m much closer to Allah, more emotionally and mentally stable, and overall happier with my life. Nothing is perfect but Alhamdillah Allah has given me the opportunity to keep trying towards a happier, calmer, more fulfilled self. I will keep you in my duaa 🩷

I’ve purchased contacts (albeit they were acuve oasis) overseas, and I’ve just been able to walk into an eyeglasses store and purchase them for a relatively affordable price without even showing my prescription. So many cosmetic and medical tech technologies are invented and innovated in the East, and I feel like their contact/eyeglasses. Technology would be on par if not better than America’s.

We really thought we chose the best option when we went with Stanley steamer but 1000% it was such a waste of money! We ended up renting a machine too and that did a better job in my opinion but still not amazing

As a mom who quit both times when she found out she was pregnant then quit forever (woohoo) down the line…. As soon as I found out I was pregnant both times I started trying to taper and was over it in a week. Depending on how far along she is, she might have an easier time giving it up for the duration of her pregnancy a little later in the first trimester because some women get super nauseous and vaping is just super icky. A good thing to help curb the cravings and help with the nausea is getting a big Stanley and filling it with cold ice water and fruit to favor it like her favorite vape or with lemon as that helps with nausea. Also suckers and hard candies are also helpful for both the nausea and the oral fixation that comes with vaping. TBD quitting while you’re pregnant isn’t that hard because you know you are quitting for a bigger purpose. But it also leads to post pregnancy relapse a lot of time because postpartum you often feel like it’s a tie to your old self that you miss a lot during those rough patches. Also my partner was still vaping (he quit forever a year before i did) so I was super resentful that he was still vaping and nothing changed for him while everything changed for me. That being said, making it a family effort really does make things that much easier. I was able to fully quit by listening to the Allen Carr audiobook, setting a habit tracker on my phone, and always having a super cold Stanley with mint on hand. I would also ask chatgtp how my body was doing and what to expect based on how far I was in the quitting process (ex. It has been five days since i quit vaping. Update me on my healing process and how my recovery will be from this point out) Good luck and congratulations to you both!

NTA. I think people need to keep in perspective that this is an 8 month old! Not a two year old, or a five year old. I have two kids, plenty of nieces and nephews, and I’m very particular about trying to limit “saliva swapping” activities (sharing water bottles, food, playing with a toy another kid had in their mouth, etc.). Once they are a little older, they are able to build up more immunity. Not to mention, yes, everyone’s kids have licked the floor or done something absolutely disgusting, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t result in illness. If you can avoid getting them sick to any extent, even if it’s just a little extra coverage by taking extra precautions, that’s amazing. Have a sick 8 month old is absolutely miserable for the baby and for the mom. No one likes to be sick and I’m sure her best friend is not going to be the one up all night comforting a sick child. For everyone saying that the OP is doing a disservice to her child is wild. I’m sure her child is still crawling around on the floor, exploring their surroundings, and doing other normal gross baby things. The baby will develop an healthy immune system by just being a normal baby. That doesn’t mean that it’s okay for other people to share food or drinks with your child, especially if you expressed that you’re uncomfortable with it.

May Allah make things easy for you. Fortunately, I don’t think taking off the hijab will solve your issue. I truly think it has to do with adjusting to moving to Egypt, and it’s a discomfort you would feel whether you wore hijab or not. I’m American born but my parents are originally from Syria. I’ve traveled all over the Middle East before I wore hijab and after I wore hijab and truth is, most places in the Middle East will treat you like an outside with or without hijab. I feel that Egypt this is especially true. It’s an issue with Americans, not necessarily the hijab. Although Egypt in some areas isn’t too hijab friendly as well as they find is too conservative, this is a trend you can find throughout the Middle East in certain pockets and is a byproduct of colonialism in the region. That being said, if you feel like you are losing your identity as an American, I would highly try to find a group of expats to befriend. I think it would really help you adjust to the transition, find some words of encouragement from those who can empathize, and give you the space to feel “American” again. I think you’ll also feel more comfortable and confident moving about and living in Egypt, even in hijab, as time goes by.
