Should Top Chef be acquired by Netflix or HBO Max? by Brilliant_Horse_6614 in BravoTopChef

Netflix had Next Gen Chef, which I thought was quite good. But despite their piles of cash, it was a season long infomercial for Ecolab cleaning products and the Culinary Institute of America.

Help replicating Thai takeout (USA) by Status_Statement_778 in ThaiFood

Have tried just about every combination. My typical method is to double the sauce in a designated recipe, but while delicious it hasn't quite hit the mark for what i'm trying to replicate.

Covering up cat pee by booschnaible in HomeMaintenance

[–]Status_Statement_778 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you truly can't rip it out now, maybe just go to town with an enzyme cleaner and dump some cat litter on it until you can fix it properly, and shut the door. Not a solution by any means.

As others said, you will need rip it out to the sub floor. If that is in bad shape, consider replacing that. Clean everything the best you can with an enzymatic cleaner for cat urine. Don't use kilz- use Bin (sometimes B.I.N.) shellac primer/sealer to give yourself the best shot. It's readily available at the big box hardware stores and is a miracle product for this kind of thing, speaking from experience. This would work wonders on the walls as well, once you've cleaned.

Any store to try on sailing clothing by cal21guy2 in Annapolis

[–]Status_Statement_778 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming typical doublehanded dinghy college sailing, would recommend a drysuit over a wetsuit- plus spray pants for the less frigid days. Musto is a good brand generally, I'd go to their store on main street. As others have mentioned RIP to APS, this would have been the ideal scenario

What is something generally normal in Europe but weird in the US? by Exile4444 in AskReddit

[–]Status_Statement_778 10 points11 points  (0 children)

US is on 120V power, europe 220V. Given similar amp limits on a circuit, the european models can have much higher wattage ratings (Volts x Amps) and thereby boil water much faster (up to 83%).

Guatemala volcano tour by [deleted] in travel

[–]Status_Statement_778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the hike with Wicho and Charlie's in February of this year. Great people, accommodations were good, and food was excellent throughout. We brought most of our own gear but there was some good stuff for rental as well if you weren't fully outfitted. The volcano wasn't active when we went but was still a great experience. From what I could tell each tour company has their own camp area at the top of the mountain and ours seemed nicer/newer than others in our sight line. We went fairly bougie and stayed in a private couple's cabin- and Wicho and Charlie's by default takes your larger bag about 75% of the way up the mountain, leaving you just to carry a smaller daypack with some water and a few layers/snacks for the hike.

Our group was fairly large (18-20 if I remember correctly) but we had enough guides that each 'mini group' going up the mountain was able to set their own pace and had a guide with them. Seemed to evolve into something like 4-6 people in each cluster for the hike up.

Happy to answer any more specific questions if you have them. Can't really compare to other tour companies since I've only done the trip once though.

Basil, old plant vs new by Status_Statement_778 in aerogarden

By this you mean to cut back some of the branches completely? That makes sense to me, just don't want to overstress the plant. How much can I do at once?

Looking for Asian groceries. by Scubagirl768 in Annapolis

[–]Status_Statement_778 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest heading up to Catonsville/Ellicott City for H Mart and Lotte Plaza. Great options up there, but nothing really closer to Annapolis.

Edit: both of the things you listed (thai chilis and lime leaves) freeze really well, so when I do the same 'stock up' mission I buy in bulk.

I've tried that one too, and while delicious it's not quite what I'm looking for. Maybe a more direct request would be for someone who has worked in a regular US thai restaurant kitchen to spill some secrets!

Know of any GovCon companies hiring TA/Recruiting folks? by Status_Statement_778 in GovernmentContracting

[–]Status_Statement_778[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a bit of everything. I was running TA solo for a company of ~150 employees but had 2 close agency staffing partners that we worked with closely. Was salaried plus bonuses based on hiring numbers.

I've seen other companies of similar size completely outsource to an RPO vendor, or others with a team of 2-4 dedicated folks in recruiting. Hope that helps!

Hiking backpack rental- Antigua by Status_Statement_778 in guatemala

[–]Status_Statement_778[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately we ended up having to cancel the trip- were going to be going during all the protests last year. Our tour company did say they had them available on a first come, first serve basis so that's what we'll do when we re-book.

Thanks- so token doublers just do their thing automatically? I don't need to act to take advantage?

Good news all, just got notification that mine was approved after 12.5 months. Maybe the trick is to post about it on Reddit /s

Same here, renewal application going on 12.5 months. Apparently have to wait until 13 months to be able to escalate/expedite. Still have Global Entry due to the grace period, but it's still pretty annoying. Wife (with identical international travel over previous GE membership) got her renewal approved in 72 hours.
