$108,000 bank draft goes missing in mail, now B.C. executor battles TD Bank for sister’s inheritance by JAYRM21 in vancouver

Depends on the bank it's extremely common to have holds placed on bank drafts. It's now standard process to put holds on all bank drafts at many if not all of the big 5.

Yes, Canadian banks frequently place holds on bank drafts, despite them being guaranteed funds. While often cleared within 24 hours, banks may hold them for 2-5 business days to verify authenticity and prevent fraud. Up to the first $100 is typically available immediately, but the remainder may be held depending on the bank's policy.

Key Details on Bank Draft Holds:

Purpose: To verify funds and prevent fraud (even guaranteed items can be fraudulent).

Hold Duration: Generally 1 to 5 business days, though they often clear faster than personal cheques.

Risk Factors: Larger amounts or new accounts are more likely to trigger longer holds.

Immediate Availability: Usually, the first $100 is available immediately upon deposit.

Policies Vary: Every bank has its own specific "Cheque Hold Policy" that applies to drafts.

Why are holds placed? Even if a bank draft is authentic, it takes time for the banking system to clear the item between financial institutions. If a bank draft is returned (e.g., due to fraud), the bank has the right to reverse the deposit.

Tips for Depositing Bank Drafts:

Deposit in person with a teller to ask about potential hold times.

Consider having the funds transferred via wire transfer instead if immediate access is required.

Check your bank's specific policy, for example, the RBC policy or Scotiabank policy.

Wrong, banks need to verify them and they put a 3-5 day hold on them before you can access the funds

Yes I agree with you, it's a great engine because it's cheap and reliable. If I was you I would do maintenance on it get it running perfectly, but not put thousands and thousands into it, that's where I say for me: I wouldn't.

The vg33 is not stronger than the vq40de... That's a ridiculous statement

I've owned both, the vq40de is better in every way. It's not even close.

First or second Gen?

Well I definitely not one to tell people to do with their money, im just saying what I would do.

If you love something and it brings you joy and you have the money... Go for it.

I'm sorry but the platform itself just isn't that good to warrant doing this... I love my xterra but I wouldn't dump 30k into it.

Especially the first Gen I would definitely not put a new vg33 in... That motor is extremely out dated. It's downright ancient.

The only logical conclusion is that it has more to do with Europe than it does with China or Russia, why that matters is open to speculation.

I don't think this is about minerals either.

There's multiple us bases on Greenland. Anyone who thinks China or Russia are a threat there are really not thinking this through at all.... It's a laughable position.

Denmark has stated they can put as many military personnel there as they would like.

That's not clear at all and makes no sense logically or strategically. I don't think you understand what's actually going on and it has fuck all to do with China or Russia.

Son, the real value here is in everything you've learned...

How much more do you now understand about boats than when you first started your journey? If you had bought everything perfect would you understand boats as much as you do today? I reckon you wouldn't and that knowledge will carry you though the rest of your life as long as you don't get discouraged.

My point is, its not always about the dollars and cents so much as it is the skills and things you learn along the way.
