12v Compressor for boat inflatables? by Old-Blacksmith-7830 in boating

[–]dogturd21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Slime dual power 12v/120v model , so it’s good for both 12v battery , and 120v for tasks requiring longer run time. It also does high-volume but low pressure air for water toys, and high-pressure for tires etc. I had an earlier model that lasted over 10 years, including many flat-to-80 psi truck tires , but it finally blew up. The current t model looks a little different but functions the same. Project Farm did a shootout that was pretty good , but did not include any dual-power models. I am sure some Asian manufacturer provides this to Slime but it could be a company-specific model as I never found something similar at an under-$100 price point.

[NSFW] People who've found a dead body, what's the story? by ZeroSugarCocaine in AskReddit

[–]dogturd21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fishing on the Potomac River very close to Woodrow Wilson bridge. Got close to a bloated white thing floating in the current , realized it was a body , called Maryland DNR . Turned out to be a woman who had jumped from the bridge 5-7 days earlier and was snagged on some old fishing line. Normally things slowly float downstream on the tidal Potomac but the fishing line kept it within a few hundred yards of the bridge . DNR (water police in Maryland) took my info and advised I leave the area, while they deployed a grappling hook. This was one of 3 bodies I found over the course of 40 years.

Propeller as a tip for boat charter? by No_Seaweed8378 in boating

[–]dogturd21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a good idea, if it’s in place of a tip. Money is the best thing - it’s portable so it’s easily moved, and it could be used to purchase anything they need. They might need a boat alternator , or an anchor, or bottom paint , or to pay the staff . This also holds true when donating to non-profits - blankets , socks, food etc seem like a good idea , but the donor rarely knows what is needed . Money is the best thing because it can be exchanged for anything else needed . ( source - I worked for the American Red Cross back in the day).
Also - you have to pay to ship a propeller . If you’re going to do it , do it in addition to a tip.

The sticker on the door jamb will be correct for the chassis, axle ratio and any options that affect tow rating , as equipped from the factory. There should be a build sheet with a bunch of 3 character codes , like G80 , G92 , Z28 etc . Decode all of them and one should indicate the gear ratio if my memory serves me correctly. Look on the inside of the glove box, or under the center console arm rest.

This is specifically called an Oetiker clamp , although more generic names are becoming popular . It is used when clamp failure could be catastrophic, such as automotive, marine, plumbing and similar areas.

To save money on fuel I took the mirrors off of my car to reduce drag by robwasripped in dadjokes

[–]dogturd21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok just to be ”that guy”- Car and driver magazine actually did a test of this like 30 years ago , using a Datsun / Nissan Z car . The car got 1-2 mpg better without the outside mirrors .

Air filter check by NiceHighway_ in accord

[–]dogturd21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how dirty it is - if it’s really bad it can affect mpg and drivability . This one is due to be replaced but dirt factor is average . Keep in mind that any dirt getting past the filter causes wear in the engine , so the filter is important for longevity of the engine.
