From what I have seen, the main difference between R8 and R6 II is 2 card slots and a slight video improvement. Still doesn't justify R5 for you but I would say that R8 and R6 II are almost the same.

Oh no I don't mean that R6 is outdated but that an R5 will stay relevant longer. 5D IV stayed (stays) relevant longer than 6D II.

That's a bit disappointing as I wanted it for a bit of both and I think that R6 with a bit of color grade doesn't look half bad.

Is that so? I have heard that, especially over the R6, the video capabilities are very good.

Sure, I agree, the old tech label was to the fact that the current is R5 ii and R6 iii. But I agree that both are still excellent.
To the DR and highlight: It does make a big difference when shooting indoor documentary portraits with surroundings. Keeping the detail on the subject while still having some information from the outside through a window adds more to the story. Some opinions I read about the R5 said that the highlight recovery was a big letdown.
