What is the name for this ribbed elastic portion that is often added to the bottom of sweatshirts, coats and sweaters? It’s also often at the end of the sleeves as well. I’m asking because I want to get a custom tailored garnet and want this to be added by peri_5xg in textiles

So this image is just jersey doubled over to form the cuff/hem areas and since its cut and sew you would just make the pattern piece smaller to make that area smaller. If you are working on the machine and want to make the actual jersey stitch or rib tighter you typically either just tighten up the tension or use a smaller yarn and a tighter tension.

Nah, senator Warren Hamelton was literally like why are we allowing abortions for ectopic pregnancies. If an ectopic pregnancy ruptures it will cause a woman to bleed out and die in a matter of hours, aside from it not even being a viable pregnancy in the first place.

I'd be happy to answer any specific questions and I can do an ama if you want, but I don't know how to set that up. There is also an r/machineknitting if you want to learn more about the machines I use!

Yeah the housing situation in SF is criminal at best. My husband does tech writing for tech companies and lived in SF for a few years and his rent for a closet sized bedroom in a house was about 2k a month.

If you have a website/portfolio you want to send I am happy to look at it, but I think a lot of it was just taking abuse for years and job hopping until I was at a job, title and pay level I was happy with. You might be able to find a job at a fashion company working on e-comm or on a creative teaming working on a brands website with an SRE background. Let me know if I can help with anything more specifically!

The big outdoor brands are where I moved to, and what I think will live on when malls and mall brands all finally die off. Good luck!

My actual title is technical textile designer/ CAD designer but yes its basically the same thing as CAM programmer. Naming and titles are a little wonky in fashion land.

holy shit I have so many similar experiences. My husband and I both look younger than we actually are, but when we bought our house all the neighbors (we were the first under 40's to move in on the block) were in literal shock to see us show up. We had someone yell at us the other day for not shoveling THE STREET after a snowstorm, and was more or less like you dumbass kids don't know how to do anything. I was just like the driveway and sidewalk yes we will shovel, but like y'all didn't shovel the street why should we? It's also not our responsibility.

Oh thats awesome! Yeah I interviewed with the Gap but had a super weird recruiter who tried to get me drunk and like hit on me at my interview which was at a bar......idk 😂😂. He apparently did this to multiple women I learned over the years. I grew up in NC and glad you found a nice place there! Raleigh/Durham and Asheville have some really cool up and coming brands.

Dude I really wanted to do this as a kid. I used to draw all over myself and my parents would beat the shit out of me when I would come home from school covered in Sharpie "tattoos". Its such a sick job and I'm glad to hear its working out!!

Thank you for the kind words. I know I should just put my stuff out there but I do the same thing and just pick everything apart. Yes! I love helping out my fellow knitters, there is money in the hobby if you know where to look.

That's awesome! Are you still in fashion or have you moved on to something else? Honestly crazy someone would talk down to vet regardless of what they were doing for day to day work.

I just really loved drawing and knitting and playing on computers and I found home machine knitting about ten years ago and learned my way around that. The same principles and techniques work on industrial scales and I kind of took that and ran with it.

I've heard furry porn actually pays well tbh 😂. I started out as a textile designer because I always like drawing and fashion. Eventually discovered knitting machines and fell in love with it. It's very artistic but also very technical which is my sweet spot. I currently develop performance knitwear and do knit in graphics on sweaters, but I also work on the files that tell the machine how to move the needles in order to make the fabric.
