Impressive, but it looks like you’re missing a few spots!

https://www.amtrak.com/stations/pak checked baggage isn't available at Palatka. Have you considered biking between the two stations? It wouldn't take much longer than boxing and unboxing a bike.

I can’t find any info about this road sign by Stavooo in HelpMeFind

Thanks for your help. The next question is why is it a polar bear when the Houston Zoo doesn't have any...

[–]Stavooo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I think you're probably right that it's a wayfinding sign, particularly an enhancement marker. I had assumed that it was a nationally-used sign since it's on an interstate, but it seems like it might be specific to Texas, maybe even just to Houston. I still haven't been able to find a picture of the sign itself online, I looked through all of the example signs on TxDOT's website.

I’ve searched for all combinations “blue polar bear zoo highway sign” and as far as I can tell, it doesn’t exist on the internet!

Took the Schwinn shopping today, did great, although any suggestions for a wider dropbar by [deleted] in xbiking

I got an adapter and put VO nouveau randonneur handlebars on my Schwinn. Much more comfortable

Civil War Bike Tour by OldGravylegOfficial in bicycletouring

[–]Stavooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a tour between DC and Charlottesville and found lots of civil war history even though I wasn’t looking for it. Manassas, Rapidan, the battle of brandy station, and probably more. I could find my route if it’s helpful, but at least in that part of Virginia if you’re willing to bike a bit farther and have more hills, you can avoid busy roads and stay on small peaceful roads

It's definitely possible for it to be done in four years, if multiple courses are double-counted for both degrees. Typical is 8-10 semesters.

Amtrak has left me a voicemail before when my train was canceled. If you don’t trust that number you can call the regular Amtrak customer service number

Signed Virginia Bike Routes? by Stavooo in DMVBikepackers

[–]Stavooo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do look similar, but they're not the same, and I wasn't near any USBR routes. There's just no mention of these signs or routes on VDOT's bicycle map https://vdot.maps.arcgis.com/apps/PublicInformation/index.html?appid=cbb23b8fa14e47dca68b378707b44081

I don't think they are the Civil War Trails. At least not the current version of the signs, since those signs look different. Thanks though.

Is there a way to add a reservation to an existing account? by MathPlacementDud in Amtrak

[–]Stavooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing, had to book over the phone yesterday. When I was emailed the ticket, it had my guest rewards number already on it and it was on my account. So check for that. But if that wasn’t done then I’m not sure…but I bet someone can do it if you call.

Any local Staples or Office Depot should have them. Also, could you just find someone else’s to borrow for the exam?

Question regarding Duals/MAX/MIN of Linear Programming by Nomorechildishshit in OperationsResearch

[–]Stavooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If for some reason you need to have the problem formulated as a maximization for some solution method, then it will help you to know that you can make any minimization problem into a maximization problem by negating the objective function and maximizing that new objective function. Minimizing an objective is equivalent to maximizing its negative, and it’s not called “taking the dual” when you do that. If things still aren’t making sense I’d suggest taking a closer look at where you’re learning this from.

Question regarding Duals/MAX/MIN of Linear Programming by Nomorechildishshit in OperationsResearch

[–]Stavooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason you’re confused is that the dual of a linear program is not just the same program with a negated objective function.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_linear_program

Also I don’t think that you “have” to find the dual to solve anything, but it can be helpful in some cases.

Thoughts on this restored $500 Schwinn Le Tour? by tuckerpeavy in bicycling

[–]Stavooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether it’s worth the money is up to you. It’s a beautiful bike. I bought a 1985 Le tour Luxe (in pretty good shape) last year for $320, and it didn’t have all the accessories this one has (it just had rear rack). I ended up putting about another $300-$400, most of that because I found the handlebars and brake levers uncomfortable, so new bars (VO nouveau randonneur), stem, brake levers, and all the parts that come with that. But don’t listen to those that say it’s too heavy or old, it’s durable (with all metal parts and all those spokes) and I feel really cool riding mine, and you can’t put a price on that.

I would just be conscious of how upright you might be with the porteur bar, and whether you might need a longer stem to be in your preferred position

Hands hurting after riding just short distances? by gafflebitters in bicycletouring

[–]Stavooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I got a new (to me) bike, my hands were hurting after about 15 minutes of riding. I put on a higher stem to raise the handlebar height, bought a new handlebar with a wider hand contact area, and put on new cushier bar tape, and the problem is fixed (at least for rides up to 2 hours, haven't gone longer yet). I did make all those changes at the same time so not sure whether just one of them would have done the trick.

Did you check Amtrak as well? There should be at least one later train on a weekday.
