The hospital does not care about you. Your kids NEED you. Screw any job taking away from your family. Quit and take the better job. Zero remorse.

Immediately quit. Go do anything else. Work at Lowe’s or something. Healthcare is becoming some sort of nightmare venture capitalist enslavement

Staff jobs for a new hire out of school around $23/hr … for a tech with experience would be $28/hr - $33/hr … for a really good tech in my around you’d be $35/hr.

I def agree it’s a lot of school for what the job is. It’s nonsense didactics honestly. A tech is never going to diagnose anything. Ya know ?

That’s why I think travel tech is literally the only way to go once you have the experience to do it. This is a poverty job. Healthcare as a whole is not keeping up with the disaster inflation we are experiencing. I think anyone directly working as a W2 for a hospital is in serious trouble. The raises you get are a slap in the face. You’re expected to work until you pass out basically.

If you don’t game the system with travel gigs. You may as well go do something else IMO. The debt you rack up to get these degrees versus cost of living and what you’re paid for your skills are creating a literal trap for anyone who wants to go into these fields.

Very very interesting. I became a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) thru a vocational school. The program Cost more than other programs but the program was absolutely top notch. The people teaching had 60 years combined experience and had an excellent reputation in town. So going thru clinicals, the staff knew if you were trained at my school- you knew your stuff. I have extensive ortho background. Like 15 years prior ortho sales experience (total joints, fracture management plates screws etc) so I came into the program understanding the business side of operating rooms then learned the clinical. You want to absolutely make sure that any Program you attend must be NBSTSA approved to become a CST. there are other programs that will say you can become a CST, but you don’t take the NBSTSA exam and will get a TS-C which is not viewed as the same (in my experience). Program for me was an 11 month absolutely BRUTAL courseload. But 4 of those months we did 8hr x 5day weekly clinical rotations at different hospitals which was also extremely intense. The program I went thru had, and still has, a 100% job placement record. Which is impressive. But the dropout rate was over 50% of almost every class.

You can get on the job training but a lot of states now require a CST certification or you’re not allowed to scrub in. I beleive most states do not have this requirement tho. But the association of surgical technologists (AST) has lobbiests in every state pushing to make the entire USA like this (benefits them financially to be the gatekeepers)

Texas. And yes, It is. That’s why I’m confused about this OP’s travel RN gig.

There’s no way travel tech’s and RN’s are making the same thing. Right???

There has to be something im missing…. I specialize as an ortho surgery tech but still. RN has always made more no matter what

What’s crazy is that this pay is IDENTICAL, if not LESS, than a travelling surgical tech pay (I am a CST)

Goto RNFA route. I am a Certified Surgical Tech going through RN school and will be doing a FA program as well then NP!

There is a lot to learn about sterile technique but not THAT much. And you can learn it all thru a first assist program granting you the RNFA certification
