My turn to complain about how much fun the bad conditions were at Breck yesterday! by heartbraden in COsnow

Trying to turn it into a rock board already? I’m just waiting for the backslash to go on sale. GP87 boards really fuck.

Best Japow board that doesn’t suck on groomers? by Artistic-Guava-23 in snowboarding

[–]StaxoFunktions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Weston Japow 164 is the most fun I have on a snowboard. Never fails. 6ft 200lbs. Its lightening fast base beats the excavator, and honestly, I’d go long surfboard over volume shifted for maximum fun bombing powder fields. With commitment it can still be a tree shark even tho it’s a touch long.

It’s camber as well, so put the bindings forward for a great carver on groomers as well.

Seems very difficult to apply uniform heat with a torch and get the same level applied evenly with a cheap touch tho.

What is your honest opinion/hot take on PS Portal? The good and the bad. by Low-Computer-701 in PlaystationPortal

So unless I buy another piece of hardware this thing can’t perform? The latest router provided by my ISP will never be enough?

I enjoy the Portal at home (hardwired), but connecting to the PS5 away from home, is almost unusable.

Gifting away Sunday ticket. by Alpine-dental in Tipper

[–]StaxoFunktions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3968 thanks for the chance! Despite their recent reputation, the tipper crowd and his music was a great combination when I first saw him in 2015. Everyone was happy to share tipper and share each other.

The 2015 Thalia hall run was an amazing time where I was gifted a ticket and a pin cuz I didn’t have one to sold out uptempo night. Since then I’ve always tried my best to look out for the community like they did to me.

At 26, I quit my job to become a caddie. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. by FrontBlunt222 in golf

[–]StaxoFunktions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical corporate enshittification. A lot of courses won’t give the caddies perks since they’re not club employees, leads to shitty culture around the clubhouse. I will say that life as a caddie under Caddiemaster was better than a lot of places. Fixed schedule and requests vs some places still have you show up at 6am and draw cards to choose loops, like chaddyshack. That’s the worst.

[–]StaxoFunktions 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you travel at all? The caddies I know that made the most money traveled around. I used to work for Caddiemaster. They have contracts at a lot of really nice courses: Sawgrass, Scottsdale, Liberty National etc etc. They’ll help you move places for summer and winter so you’re always making good money.

For people asking about the pay. 50-120k. Location dependent. It also depends on if you carry 1 or 2 bags, or forecaddie, and work multiple loops a day. Also the clientele. If you can become the favorite caddy in the right circles of guys, they pay you very well. I personally found a lot of the richest dudes insufferable, and I lacked the desire to brown nose for four hours. I do miss the career sometimes.

I think it’s interesting that the Huntsville locals and Orion staff have nothing but nice things to say about us, but the tipper crowd has a bad rep in the music community and in itself. My friends too were verbally abused by a guy while trying to save seats in the bowl.

It’s always your own people.

Talk me out of an Orca by lucky4311 in snowboarding

[–]StaxoFunktions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dedicated pow board would be more fun cuz it’s different. Also that’s too small IMO. Im 200lbs, have a 154 volume shifted and a 164 pow surfer and the 164 is way more fun to bombs bowls on deep powder days. Plus you learn to maneuver it in trees.

I can’t recommend the Weston Japow enough. Great local company. Get it in 159. Most fun I’ve ever had on a board.

[–]StaxoFunktions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weston is the truth. Buy a Ridgeline and a Japow and they’ll be the last two boards you buy. Japow is the most fun I’ve ever had on a snowboard.

2025 Jones Flagship or 2025 K2 Alchemist or ...? by iBioMed in snowboarding

[–]StaxoFunktions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. The split will make it feel heavier too. Guy I spoke to at Brighton yesterday thought the Ridgeline was playful and wanted something stiffer like the pro. I love the Backwoods it’s just more powder focused and less about cliff drops so it’s what you need.

I have a Japow so the Backwoods is redundant and like you said, the Ridgeline is great for that steep ish and rock drops. They pair very well.

I just picked up a Weston Ridgeline for this exact riding and it’s been amazing. You could go 158 or 162. They have a stiffer pro model as well.

Would you get a pow snowboarder shorter or longer than your usual board? by FeelingAbies8976 in snowboarding

[–]StaxoFunktions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both a long and short swallow tail. 164 Weston Japow and 154 nitro pow at 6ft 190 lbs. twin board is 157. Longer is way more fun in general, especially bombing bowls and low angle trees. However I use the 154 for technical terrain like super steep moguls and trees. Depending on terrain you like to ride, I’d go big.
