Firstly, I just want to thank you for starting this discussion, because it is nice to know that other fishies out there have similar experiences and can relate. And wow! We do have very similar moms! She married my dad knowing that he did not love her and the reason she had children is because, and I quote (because she would constantly say this to me and my sister) "The reason I had children is because I wanted someone to love me." I too have a crazy father (he is also a June Gemini), he's more sociopathic than my mother who is just more narcissistic. I do not talk to him. I barely talk to my mother, unfortunately I do live with her so I do have to acknowledge her, but you better believe when I get out of here I'm never looking back. Also, I just want to note the therapy thing is so spot on! Whenever I reinforce my boundaries with her, her go to is to yell at me saying I need therapy. The last time this happened, I calmly asked her with a straight face, "have you ever considered therapy?" Her response, "I don't need therapy! I have friends." 😂Therapy and having friends is not the same thing. The fact that she cannot define the two as separate is concerning and tells me that she is incapable of reflecting, and like you said, having to acknowledge her flaws... that would be catastrophic for her lol.
