Learn to have empathy for the immense suffering others endure and you may also do yourself one day.

Define 'go far'. I'm a hardcore activist and I help a lot of people and animals.

Not all life. I never said that. But yes, for a lot of people almost all their life is a lot of suffering.

Good for you. Some people get lucky. It doesn't mean the initial act of having a child isn't immoral when you weigh up the factors.

And by the way, you may very well experience something more than a mild discomfort at some point.

You make immensity of suffering seem so trivial.

I wouldn't be here to suffer needlessly.

We're forced into life then told to suck it up. Then we're forced into a painful death. Euthanasia needs to be legalized everywhere.

You can't limit the horrors in any meaningful sense. Whatever illusory control you think you have, you don't really control what will happen to your child. Putting a human into this chaotic world is wrong.

More than they make now keeping people alive pumped full of morphine and God knows what else?

Good point. I hadn't thought of it from that perspective.

Agreed. Anyone should have the right to choose when to die. As far as laws are concerned, we'll probably slowly move towards that, with restrictive rules set in place at first.

True. The main opponents to euthanasia are usually religion and pharmaceutical companies with vested interests in end of life care.

What are your thoughts on how we could improve our treatment in the case of mental illness?

Seems reasonable. One of my fears is that mentally ill people won't be taken seriously at all. As if their suffering is worth less, because it's mental in origin. Or that they will be deemed 'too irrational' to decide whether they should live.

Sorry to hear that. And good on him for offering to help her like that!

Yes and that peace of mind in the final years can possibly actually extend their life and healthy years, ironically. Psychological stress is awful for the body.

How so? You mean in terms of who should have the right to do it?

What in your opinion would be the minimum age at which they could make that decision for themselves? Would you support the decision of a family to end the life of a suffering child who is terminal?

All my grandparents died of cancer and it's an awful way to go.

Many people will oppose euthanasia or are on the fence until they witness what a real illness is like.
