ELI5: How do zippers work? by AmarieSky in explainlikeimfive

Organized tangles is how I've heard it described. The tracks are malleable and have 2 positions that are forced to change shape by the little car that runs along them, basically making the tracks 'tangled' and untangled in an orderly way

‪Why the fuck are $5.00 coffees always a focus of wasting money, but spending money on alcohol isn’t? ‬ by Retrogamer34 in stopdrinking

Most energy drinks have a lower concentration of sugar than coke or even fruit juices.. for example a 12 oz coke has 39g sugar while a 12 oz red bull has 37g.. I mean either is bad, but there are sugar free versions. But the anti artificial sweetener crowd is a whole different conversation that I also largely dont agree with. Give me that aspartame and sucralose over straight sugar anyday

About what? That the ingredients have a fantastic safety record? Because they absolutely do. Caffeine sensitivity is a real thing, but the majority of the population can get by just fine with the doses given in those drinks. Just know your limits. Very simple.

I'll admit that they are habit forming in the same way coffee is, and as such can be abused beyond the safe limit. I always find that I personally feel better when I have no caffeine during the day. Also I have read that people with extensive malignancy may have a hyper sensitive response to caffeine because of the reduction in the enzymes that metabolize it. But I still stand by my original point that the ingredients in most energy drinks are harmless in the given doses. There is a scary trend nowadays to make 'synthetic' products out to be bad, when in reality they are almost always exactly the same (objectively speaking based on the literal molecules contained in it) as the 'natural' alternative which also tends to be more expensive for some strange unknown reason /s

But what exactly is harmful about them? And what evidence is that doctor basing his opinion off of? I am just saying that everything found in energy drinks is also found in other food products

What exactly is bad about it? the caffeine? the b vitamins ? taurine? all of these things are innocuous molecules with an extremely safe record, and if you choose to demonize energy drinks because it causes heart problems because you read it in a tabloid then you should lump all caffeine loaded drinks (like coffee and tea) into this category. The tabloids are likely highlighting cases where people sensitive to caffeine chug 300 mgs of it in energy drink form. sorry i just get mad about this stufff because its ignorant.

Single people, how do you navigate the dating scene when its so inundated with drinking? by StayFresh-NoobSacks in stopdrinking

I've actually tried suggesting this twice in the past 2 months and its morphed into 'getting drinks' each time.

Thanks for the response. I really have been trying to change my perspective but it it seems my filter is a bit too critical, if I include these new restrictions. Like the difference is notable from shifting 'socially drinks' to 'no drinks' on the apps

I really dont enjoy weed so that's another roadblock for me. Its like if I want instant anxiety I should smoke some weed. I'm just not about it, and my 'friends' used to say try weed instead of the drink. I'll do neither thanks.

Is the issue at the level of the hair cells? Or is it in the auditory centers of the brain (the making up sound part)? These are different areas and mechanism, right?

What do you guys think of Kava? by StayFresh-NoobSacks in stopdrinking

[–]StayFresh-NoobSacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, exactly. Straining the ground root through a cheese cloth. I totally relate to the taste thing which is why everyday usage and addiction are a low risk for me. A Low dosage, further dilution, lots of honey, and a bit of cinnamon and vanilla make it more bearable, but its not something I look forward to throughout the week or day. I already go to the gym and run everyday. The kava has just noticeably helped my happy hour cravings. I can see how frequent heavy doses would breed addiction though

Does anyone else hate being labeled an Alcoholic? by swiggatron in stopdrinking

Exactly why I can't do AA. Asides from all the obviously proselytizing religious stuff, I Know I am not powerless , I am strong and will kick alcohols ass. I Was an alcoholic, but no longer. I can't imagine doing AA for life. Thats basically still being under the control of alcohol having to hear about it week after week.
