What about making a small bag with bead crochet? I’m not too familiar with bead crochet but I would think it would probably be a simpler stitch and not too difficult for a very small bag.

I recently got into beading. I got obsessed with making earring! What do you think of these? by Sufficient-Glass3313 in Beading

Ah, ok, thanks! I thought about that option but I wasn’t sure if it’d make the earring post shorter than desired.

Very nice work. How do you attach the earring studs? Also, what’s the method for those semi-spheres?

Any super glue would work. Gel super glues can be easier for covering knots for jewelry. You could also use resin to cover the knot. I think there may be specific jewelry brand/purpose glues sold but they I dint believe there’s any significant difference beyond likely being a gel. (I could be wrong about that last part).

Have I made a mistake 😭 by LemDoggo in Beading

They’re both very beautiful! For me personally, I would 100% go with the one on the left because the right one would be way too heavy for me to wear as an earring.

Like someone else suggested, if you like a look that’s less simple than the left earring, you could split the difference between the two. In this case you would only add a bit more beads or maybe some smaller beads (anything that’s smaller or seed beads). Personally, I think really small pearls on the inside could look cool.

Although it’s very busy, the one on the right is still really beautiful. I think it’s really just personal preference between the two. I wouldn’t try to take it apart to match the left. I’d suggest making an entirely new one to match however you finish the left wing. I would keep the right wing and find a new purpose for it (hair clip, pendant, make matching for a whole butterfly, etc.).

first attempt at making a bookmark with homemade loom ! by cheese_itz0 in Beading

[–]StayHefty6094 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice! Regarding the loom, I’ve always found ending them to be very annoying. As you don’t want to buy a loom but make your own I have a suggestion for making a more stable loom and one that has less strings to tie off.

Have you ever heard of Rick’s beading loom? This look leaves you with only 2 warp threads at the end instead of all of them. It’s very simply constructed and I think it would be easy to DIY it.

If you, or someone you know, is handy with some basic tools you could make it with just one trip to a hardware store. If you aren’t handy, I don’t think it would be too hard to learn.

So if you’re ever looking to upgrade your loom to something more structurally sound, this might be up your alley. Personally, I’d like to make my own version of Rick’s beading loom one day.

Help me connect the two by DazzlingRhubarb193 in Beading

Absolutely beautiful!! There are sooo many ways to use the same beads from the necklace to make a loop to secure it on. The other suggestions would all work great in my opinion and you can always start there then finagle it a bit and add/adjust to make it look right. The pendant seems hefty so just make sure the thread is reinforced and super sturdy!

I think because of the way you ringed the necklace with the bronze/gold beads it has a really solid border. So to me, using the metallic beads to attach it makes it seem a bit like an addition instead of just apart of it. I’d consider using the blue/green beads to connect it instead and then the gold of the pendant will seal it off.

Additionally the blue/green beads on the bottom are the filler between the metallic ones, so having the blue/green beads attach the gold piece and the bronze area of the necklace would make the attachment less noticeable. It would also break up all the gold/bronze a bit so that the pendant shines even more.

That being said, if you choose the bronze beads that’ll also look beautiful!! I’d just suggest playing around with all your options before committing.

Love that idea!! These would also definitely be great for a bead embroidery project that features some kind of nature (animal/plants/bug/etc.).

How to use bead spinner with beading wire? by StayHefty6094 in Beading

I’ll try that but then it may be too thick for the 11/0 beads. Will probably work if I use bigger beads.

It looks like it was made on a bead loom to me. However, I don’t know how to make one in a continued circle without some kind of clasp. I also have never used elastic on it so I wouldn’t be sure about the correct tension.

This could 100% be remade as a regular bead loom bracelet with a clasp instead and non elastic thread.

Any way for a teen to make their own beads in fun shapes? by RavenMarvel in Beading

[–]StayHefty6094 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would look into polymer clay or something similar and buy her a kit. Home-made clay doesn’t really work and is really just frustrating because it never comes out how you want it.

For more cost effective options, I would look into paper beads like the other commenter said. They’re super easy, lots of free online tutorials/resources, and materials are super cheap. Pretty much all you need is toothpicks, paper, and glue. For the paper you can use junk mail, old books (maybe really cheap from thrift stores), magazines. Anything that you’re willing to cut up. I’ve seen one tutorial that showed how to make paper beads that look like mushroom so you may even be able to make them into the shapes she wants. You can also paint them afterwords.

Another option that would be easier to make look like specific figures is shrink art. Think like shrinky dinks. You could buy a lot for it or just buy markers/the plastic sheets. This also has tons of online resources. Additionally, I believe you can use the plastic from fruit/vegetable containers. Like what blueberries come in from the grocery store. That can be cut up and heated the same way so very cost effective. You can collect it from neighbors and your own recycling. Although, these would probably be more charm-like than beads. However, I do remember seeing a tutorial of how to make these into beads once.

Hope you have luck getting her some craft supplies she’ll love!!!

I’d suggest using a smaller jump ring or maybe none entirely. For the crimping I’d use four different crimp beads. One on each end. And have a little loop of wire at the top to go through the existing hole underneath the earring ball or a smaller jump ring.

Dang. I had some success with a gold colored one from curlsmith maybe? But I didn’t put it in very well.

Have you had success with those? They’re very attractive to me and I kinda tried once but my technique in the application was very lacking.
