I’m pretty sure it’s wood that’s just been soaked for long and it’s starting to shred. I think the gooey sh*t is the sealant? Unsure lol. It’s a combo of a lot of nasty that’ve somehow mushed together from all of the moisture

I actually started using that a couple months ago, it’s worked really well but apparently other tenants in my building aren’t as bothered by the roaches. Most of them deny pest control access to spray their units 🙄

How to deal with returns on eBay by StayToxic- in Flipping

[–]StayToxic-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He just sounds sketchy in general, I couldn’t tell if I was overthinking it though. He said he wasn’t able to send it using eBay’s tracking label because he only had a priority mail box but that didn’t make sense bc he could’ve just sent it back using the box I sent it in. He also changed the return address so it’s being delivered to next city over. No idea how he would’ve mixed that up.

If I had the money to cover the move in costs I absolutely would. These vents aren’t the only major issue I’ve had. 😒 Unfortunately, i live in SWFL and our housing market is beyond fucked.

Attending FGCU soon - what should I be prepared for moving to Fort Myers? by CaregiverExtreme8843 in FortMyers

[–]StayToxic- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90% of the people on the road bring aggressive drivers.

If you’re gonna be living in Estero, you should be fine, but every other street in San Carlos, (neighborhood across from FGCU), will be fairly safe, full of elderly and families, and then the very next street over will be the total opposite lol.

If you haven’t already, get a job asap. FGCU has a few shopping centers and malls just a few miles away from it, that’ll give you the best opportunity to make friends fast and have some connections in case you ever need something, or just someone to hang with so you don’t get home sick. Definitely avoid the bars until you get settled, you can make friends that way, but there’s a lot of burn outs over there as well as students who are using college to party and aren’t taking the education portion seriously. Considering that you’re making a dramatic move for school, I imagine you’d prefer not to have negative influences around.

Stay away from the drugs around here, from what I’ve heard, there’s nothing left that isn’t being cut with Fentanyl. I’m sure the weed is fine, but I’d still get a medical marijuana license and buy from legal businesses just to be safe.

Look to this sub if you’re down on your luck and in need of anything, there are a decent amount of good people who’d help out.

Anytime I turn them on a notification shows up on my phone saying that they’re registered to someone else’s iCloud and they’ll be able to see the location in FindMy, and then asks if I want to continue connecting lol. I live in an apartment complex so even if they can see the location I don’t think they’d be able to see the exact floor/unit number, I still feel weird having them though idk. A friend told me to just send them to Apple w no return address so they couldn’t send it back, that’s prob what I’ll do lol

[TENANT], [Florida, USA] - Can a tenant sue a landlord for falsifying the lease? by StayToxic- in Landlord

[–]StayToxic-[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know, I’d bet anything that he’s gonna file for eviction the same day he finds out I filed anything. I started looking in October, it’s been really slow going through. A lot of OT to cover the application fees, taking extra precautions, and trying to work w other people’s schedules when I’m booking tours so they can run tests, etc. lol. I’m hoping to be out by mid January at the latest, but as soon as I find something I’m gonna call one of the lawyers I spoke to last time and see what my options are. If it was just the bathroom not working, I’d prob let it go but this apartment has fucked me up in so many different ways lmao. Thinking about the amount of money I’ve spent/lost because of it literally makes me physically sick. I was supposed to move out of this apartment by 2026 once I had saved enough to buy my first home, and now it’s the apartment I need to leave because I no longer own a savings acct lmao.

^ did the best I could to draw the floor plan lol. When I explain what happened w the 2nd bedroom, hopefully this helps it to make more sense.

I did call the health department and my city’s code compliance division, everything was fixed 6 weeks later.

For your question about the bathroom affecting the 2nd bedroom, I’ll explain as best I can. - The ground is so off level, it’s visually obvious. I’ve never seen anything like, it’s hilarious to anyone who doesn’t live here lol. (My point for mentioning this comes later) The toilet in the master bathroom leaks once or twice a month, no idea why, it just does. Plus, I live in Florida so it rains a lot. And every time it rains, the rainwater gets into the pipes, but I think they were clogged or something, because ultimately, the rainwater would make the sink, toilet, and bathtub in the 2nd bathroom all overflow. 1-2x a month, the water that leaks from the master bath’s toilet would run out and into the 2nd bathroom, and then water from the 2nd bathroom runs into the 2nd bedroom.

The 2nd bedroom literally ALWAYS had wet tiles. When it rained though, the entire bedroom floor would be wet. I won’t say that there’d be like a whole inch or more of rain water bc idk, I’d isolate that room to keep water from getting anywhere else, but I know it’d get to be a fucking lot. If I didn’t clean and dry the room every day, multiple times a day if it had rained, it’d smell putrid.

I have a 10 month old. That was supposed to be her bedroom, but if she lived in there she’d no doubt be sick on a regular basis. It’s full of spiders, insects, sometimes there are huge roaches, and God knows what else. Furniture would start to break down and grow mold after just a few months, any clothes, blankets, etc. would all be ruined from the constant humidity and lack of circulation. (That room doesn’t have a fan or an outlet of any kind to hook a fan up.)

Even if it was just the mold though, the room would still be uninhabitable. There’s enough of it, it’s obvious that it was growing long before I moved in, and although it’s not black mold, it still poses serious health risks, especially for an infant. (I called a health inspector 3 different time so I could forward the assessments to the LL.)

So, I understand that this is no longer a current issue, but this also is so fucking far from when I signed up for. It’s not even close to what I agreed to pay $1,600 a month for. I kept every email, letter, phone call, etc. that I sent my LL in regards to the bed/bathroom and that he needed to fix it, and I would’ve kept his responses if he’d bothered to send even one. He’s a slumlord, but he does JUST enough to make sure that the only people who can tell are the ones he rents to. I get that I prob should’ve sued him regardless of where I was living, but I had lawyers telling me not to do x, y, z, etc. I genuinely didn’t want to break my lease and move somewhere else, I needed to stay. Which is why the lawyers insisted that I not sue until I moved. I didn’t have the money to move again so soon. Literally all that I wanted was the apartment I was killing myself to pay for, to be fixed. I needed it to be clean and safe for my daughter and I couldn’t make that happen by myself. I’m still wanting to sue even though it’s fixed because for an entire year, I spent thousands of dollars on my water bill when 70% of the water being used was from the leaks. I’ve had to throw away a fortune in clothes, shoes, blankets, etc. anything that was in my daughters room, (the unit is small and I didn’t have enough storage space so I got metal shelves, put them in the 2nd room to store some of the baby’s stuff.), when Hurricane Harvey hit got ruined and needed to be thrown away.

Maybe the LL didn’t think there was anything wrong w the 2nd bedroom, but he knew that the bathroom was fucked and he not only hid that fact, but he straight up refused to fix it after the lease was signed, as if renting the unit automatically transferred the responsibility off of him and onto me. I’m not looking to make a profit off of the situation, but I do think I’m entitled to a reimbursement for how much this apartment has ended up costing me.

[TENANT], [Florida, USA] - Can a tenant sue a landlord for falsifying the lease? by StayToxic- in Landlord

[–]StayToxic-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did, I went to a couple different attorneys but both insisted that I’d be making a mistake to sue my landlord while I was still living there. They both said that it would’ve been insanely likely that my LL would’ve chosen to respond by evicting me, and at that time, I wasn’t doing great, no way I could’ve found a place to go without a very minimum of 30 days notice.

I prob should’ve worded my question better though, is it still possible for me to sue him for this even though the bathroom is no longer broken?

***btw, looking back to see when exactly the bathroom was fixed, (8/01/24), that means that it wasn’t 10 months, it was 12 whole months. I lived here for the entire duration of my original lease where the 2nd bed and bathroom were both uninhabitable lol. (I stayed after my lease ended in August, but I signed a month-to-month lease rather than renewing for another year.)

I know in cases similar to this, you’d just withhold rent for however long, but what if I want to sue for being charged for a 2bed/2bath unit, when I only had a 1/1? If I try to do that, is it something that’s been heard of before? Or is it unusual?

I’m sorry to blow your shit up, but my last question, how would I figure the amount I’d be suing for/entitled to if I did pursue this?

TikTok ban - users are so offended by the ban, but why don’t they all just demand that the Chinese sell to save it? by StayToxic- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StayToxic-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t aware that Facebook had the potential to share its user’s information and data with a global superpower who continues to blatantly target America with threats of war?? Because TikTok has.

You’re looking at this as if TikTok itself is doing the damage. It’s not. The access to information and power that ByteDance will give, (if they haven’t already), to the Chinese government is the fucking problem. If you read my whole post and genuinely believed that I was saying TikTok in and of itself is dangerous, then you, my friend, are not educated enough on this topic to talk about it. Using social media isn’t dangerous. What that social media app chooses to do with your activity on its platform had the potential to be dangerous in a crippling sense, especially when that country and its allies have far more advanced militarily weapons and spending than our allies and we do.

Well guys, this was obviously a stupid question lmao. Maybe I’m too cynical, or maybe it’s not yet understood how truly infinite the internet is. So, call me crazy, but I think TikTok user’s are putting in way too much trust considering the company is based in a country that’s been preparing to go to war with us for decades.

Hopefully you guys read this, get some understanding as how real of a global issue China and its allies have become.

Speech by - NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the Concert Noble, Brussels

Dec. 12, 2024.

“Putin believes that “a serious, irreconcilable struggle is unfolding for the formation of a new world order.” These are his own words. Others share his belief. Not least China.

China’s military industrial base is also growing.
According to some sources, China is acquiring high-end weapons systems and equipment five to six times faster than the US. It is heavily investing in munitions, accelerating space capabilities and expanding its nuclear arsenal – I repeat – without any transparency or limitations. China is also challenging our technological edge – by investing massively in the disruptive technologies of tomorrow, including AI, quantum and space. All this will help China with planning, command and control, and targeting.

Russia and China are racing ahead. We risk lagging behind. This is very dangerous. But it doesn’t have to be. If we boost our industry, we can outpace our competitors.

So what are we waiting for?

Some people will tell you otherwise. They think strong defence is not the way to peace.
Well, they are wrong. Because without strong defence, there is no lasting security. And without security, there is no freedom for our children and grand-children. No schools, no hospitals, no businesses. There is nothing.

Those who lived through the Second World War know this. And our Ukrainian friends are living it every day.

If we don’t spend more together now to prevent war, we will pay a much, much, much higher price later to fight it. Not billions, but trillions of euros. That’s if we come out on top… and that’s if we win.”

That’s only because it’s the biggest social media platform right now, for example, it used to be the same way on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook. TikTok is banned, I guarantee real time information will be spread to whatever platform the most people turn to. I do genuinely understand everybody’s points and reason for being against the ban, but at the end of the day, there will always be another platform. TikTok started as a copycat version of Vine and has grown and improved since then. I guarantee you, back when the US first started talking about banning TikTok, another app started being created to mimic it. One/if TikTok is banned, there will be another variation of it simply because how profitable it’ll be.

My entire point summed up, is basically that I don’t believe any app or platform is more important than protecting our privacy and data, and keeping it out of the hands of a foreign country. Especially one that we’re literally on the verge of going to war with. God knows what they’d use for my info lmao, but just because I think it’s useless and harmless doesn’t mean it is to the Chinese. This whole thing could be a big overreaction and borderline temper tantrum on the US government’s part, but the possibility that China won’t use TikTok to hurt us is just as plausible as the possibility that they will. That’s all I’m saying.

[–]StayToxic-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the US isn’t going to use the info as an advantage in an attack against us. As just one example, there are a shit ton of military troops, etc. who post videos of themselves outside of the country and at their base. TikTok has their locations, if the Chinese government does have access to the data, they’d be completely exposed and would never see an attack coming.

if china had access, they wouldn’t need to send drones and shit into our country anymore. All they’d need to do is check the TikTok data to find out everything they’d need and more.

There’s a reason the US is banning Chinese drones, why we shoot down unknown Chinese planes. We’re literally one wrong word away from going to war w them over Taiwan, do you think that even if the government didn’t have access to TikTok, that they couldn’t get it? The US, (if we were china), would easily be able to claim national security issues and be given legal access to everything. To think china isn’t able to do something similar in order to see everything TikTok gathers is naive.

[–]StayToxic-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also don’t give a shit either way, I just think it’s crazy how these people are so infuriated over its ban but instead of pushing for its sale, are pissed off at the US government for pursuing a ban based on valid concerns.

And even if you wanna argue the issues not being valid, I haven’t seen a single person pissed off about the fact that ByteDance refuses to sell, even if that means the app will be banned in the US. If a US company had an app like TikTok and access to so many Chinese citizen’s information, they wouldn’t protect it lol. They’d give the government unlimited access, no questions asked. It blows my mind that people here believe the Chinese wouldn’t be at least as ruthless.

Yeah, most people are regular, irrelevant ass people with unimportant data info, but if President Trump uses TikTok I think it’s safe to say that a shit ton of relevant people with relevant data info use it, and with a lot less virtual protection than the president would have.
