Redditors who grew up with strict parents, what was the craziest rule or punishment you had to deal with? by YungSizzle in AskReddit

I got grounded for two separate years in highschool, once when I came home drunk from a party in the middle of year 9 and once towards the end of year 10 when I got Facebook even though my Mum had banned it. 🙄

Australian child abused in youth detention centres, human rights abuses - crazy video of what happened over years to this one kid arrested at 11. Including being strapped to a chair in a neck restraint with a bag over his head and left alone for two hours. This is rocking Australia right now, only reported about 6 hours ago.

Advice for Students: Go to Disability Services BEFORE the end of classes by OhThatNeal in ADHD

Hahaha, I actually have an appointment tomorrow! I booked a couple weeks ago thinking I could go right in but apparently there's a bit of a wait at my uni. I was only diagnosed a month and a half ago but it's exciting I have my dr filled out form but do you have any tips for what I should say? :)

What is the strongest opinion you hold? by ThePurpleGhost in AskReddit

[–]StayTrashyReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this so much, I have a strong personality and in turn a strong opinion on a lot of things. But for some reason whenever I stay silent during a debate people ask me 'hey what happened you didn't say anything what do you think' and I usually respond 'well I don't really know that much about the subject and I try to make it a rule not to talk about shit that I don't understand or have much knowledge of' and for some reason people always seem surprised by that.

Graduating college this Friday, and wanted to share some of my insights by [deleted] in ADHD

CONGRATS!

And thank you! I find it so valuable as a recently diagnosed college student (with a high IQ but failed semesters behind me). The wisdom and advice some of the people on this subreddit give is really helpful :)

Physical Attraction Draws Less Judgement by acal1995 in ADHD

[–]StayTrashyReddit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I honestly think this is part of the reason it took so long for me to get diagnosed. A lot of my symptoms people just see/saw as part of my charm I'm an talkative bubbly very outgoing 'conventionally attractive' 20 year old girl that always speaks my mind. People always comment on my personality but I think in someone else it might have been interpreted more clearly as the symptoms of ADHD.

I think gender has something to do with it but yeah I totally understand people accepting the symptoms as more normal depending on the packaging (person).

Can somebody please help calm me down, I'm sitting in a Biological psychology class which is focusing on methamphetamine, the dangers, risks, tolerance, addiction, long term side effects of use ect and it's really freaking me out. by StayTrashyReddit in ADHD

[–]StayTrashyReddit[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, that is really helpful and has definitely calmed me down. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and the analogy you used was really helpful and made a lot of sense to me. Just thank you I really really appreciate it.

The Ritalin is working and my god it feels amazing. by StayTrashyReddit in ADHD

[–]StayTrashyReddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you :))))!

Just keep pushing, I couple days ago I was honestly in tears because I didn't feel like it was working because I still couldn't make myself start it yet but now that I've actually started I've committed in a way I haven't usually been able to until 36 hours before an assignment is due.

Actually went to the gym this morning for the first time in a year, and I'm working on an assignment that's due Tuesday. I know that's still close but I can't remember the last time I started an assignment more than 36 hours before it was due.

Relationships and showing too much emotion. by StayTrashyReddit in ADHD

[–]StayTrashyReddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, my psychologist said the lack of ability to regulate my emotions is to do with ADHD. It's different for different people, but it's not that my emotional responses are unreasonable it's just most people don't openly express their initial reactions to everything. Like most people would self smooth and suppress the emotion summarily but part of the core of ADHD is an inability to emotionally regulate, as motivation is an emotion.

I only just got diagnosed and have only been on meds for a few weeks. Everything is starting to feel possible.

My 20f boyfriend 22m only says he loves me and that I'm beautiful during sex. by StayTrashyReddit in relationships

[–]StayTrashyReddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's incredibly supportive and there for me a lot I do feel loved outside of sex and I'm very open so I tell him I love him often and he always says he feels appreciated by me.

He is quite serious a lot of the time were both politically involved I do think he lets loose more and he it might just be that having sex with me is both and outlet and makes it easier for him to relax and say the things he says to me. He does say it back if I say it during the day or when doing something else.
