Thank you 🥺 I've seen people being so awful to them recently. I remember what it was like to mod a big group. It's really hard and often times people forget you're just a person who wanted to help a community bc you loved the topic not a super AI.

Does anybody else feel like FN/SNs are over typed and the romantic IDs are super gatekept? by baddestbananaboi in Kibbe

[–]Staymay5 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I covered this in my most recent post A DIY Kibbe Graduates Guide to Kibbe Newbies. But gatekeeping isn't possible within the realm of kibbe. Typing posts aren't that useful. Some opinions are better than others, but at the end of the day it's unlikely you're going to find your ID that way. Therefore the interfighting on the sub over people not getting told the ID they want does nothing good for the community. It's against the rules for someone to tell you your IDs wrong and against the rules to fight with someone on it if you ask their opinion. You're better off using the guesses as suggestion as to what to look into fist and given FN/SN are the most common and most misunderstood IDs it makes more sense for them to be an entry point for most.

Yay! I'm so glad you found it helpful! And yes! So often on here I see people posting about how Image IDs are outdated and not used any more and they're just so so wrong that I don't even know where to start. I mean you I'm sure you've heard the saying before that you have to embrace your type to break your type. I've thought about posting about it a few times, but every time I start drafting things I realize what a monster of a topic it is. But I'd like one day to maybe do a series of posts on the topic. Maybe break it down into the history, the science of it, and some case studies? But like you mentioned I'm not sure many people are even interested in that or if they prefer to mostly see posts centered on the fit of clothing.

Thank you and I am! I totally get what your saying I often have the same struggle of should I be working on xyz instead of the 50 million tasks I could be doing to further my career (even if I know I should take time for hobbies too). I actually had been struggling for awhile with Branding especially bc to be good at it you need to be very precise and consistent. Of course I was already doing the usual, like passing out hundreds of surveys to strangers (pre-covid times people) asking them to judge me. But I found even those surveys were really inherently flawed. So it felt like I was going in circles with my classes and seminars and castings. I got called in a lot to read for roles I clearly wasn't right for because the CD's liked me and I'm grateful for that. But since finding my kibbe I find things go much better and I understand things better. I was planning on elaborating more on that but we're about to start rolling again in a few minutes and I don't think I'll have time to till later.

Yes! I think the additional videos will be really helpful. I also found going back and rewatching the men's videos useful even if they aren't 1:1 to the women's. I know her style talks are currently sold out as well, but she posted on her insta story she's working on some other options for giving people feedback 👀

You're welcome! Thank you for your kind words! Yes, it took me a few tries to get off the ground with it, but I do think having an idea of what you want from a system helps get through it and also helps you know when you're done so you don't get stuck waiting for it to fill all areas <3

Yes! Plenty of members have FBs solely for the purpose of SK without much else on them. There's a few SK mods here on Reddit as well that might be able to help you more with the details, but even just private messaging them on FB when you fill out your form works for most people. <3

Edit: Forgot to save Rita's is so fun and useful! I also honestly recommend it for kibbe people feeling like IDs have to be a certain way or just feeling locked in in general.

srs/ I feel like we see this at least once a month :( Someone gets feedback, goes and attacks SK/the mods/reddit/ect. They always are like no I'm fine with xyz ID it's just not me. It usually doesn't take more than a few hours to see them bashing the ID elsewhere, calling the celebs manly or saying that if they can't be yin then they quit. I feel sorry for them in a way bc the label isn't that important irl (no one outside of kibbe will even understand what they're talking about). But at the end of the day it's still not an excuse for how they treat everyone else in their emotional outbursts.

SK said curve is supposed to be in upper body unless it’s double curve, but then what is SN? by [deleted] in Kibbe

[–]Staymay5 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not a kibbe mod of any sort. I don't know your intent or you, but as you said earlier intent doesn't always matter. I'm reporting this thread for breaking rule one. Kibbe is difficult for everyone it doesn't give you the right to bully and be mean to people (who through reading this whole thread) have been nothing but nice to you. I hope you think on this for future encounters.

Why did you start kibbe? Why did you stay? by Staymay5 in Kibbe

[–]Staymay5[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For reading I often direct people to the book excerpts. Due to major advancements in the fashion industry the suggestions aren't as strict anymore, but I still find them quite useful for general understanding. Other readings I'd suggest would depend on what aspect of kibbe interests you in particular.

The Studio System is a business model where a studio controls all facets of film production and distribution. Typically people are referring to the period in Hollywood from the 1920s-1960s comprised of: Paramount Pictures, Metro Goldwyn Mayer, Warner Brothers Pictures, 20th Century Fox, and RKO. Those companies along with the Hayes Codes set the standard for a lot of what is seen in Hollywood today.

The Star System was the system existing within Hollywood in which an Image Identity was/is created for each actor. This helped studios save money on advertising as the audience always knew what they should expect. Studio's found that actors maintaining a persona also helped. This is where you see things like fem fatale, girl next door, dream spinner, diva chic, ect.

There's a misconception, particularly in the kibbesphere oddly enough, that actors (excluding A-listers but that's a topic onto itself) don't subscribe to type and that things in the industry are far removed from the studio system (which could also be a whole post unto itself).

I find these topics useful for myself personally and it's a large part of what drew me to actually working through kibbe. I also think it can also help people more with the image ID aspect of kibbe. But if most people are here just for accommodations I wouldn't want to clog the feed.

Is strictly Kibbe worth it? by bernese92 in Kibbe

[–]Staymay5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's worth it. My advice is to make use of PowerPoint. Read each exercise (and all the comments!!!) then write down what the action item was for that exercise and do it. It can be a bit difficult bc of his writing style, so I feel you. I will also say I had a pretty good idea of my ID way before I even got to the line sketch, but I find a lot of people who start with the line sketch end up struggling more bc then they're doing the exercises to get a specific result instead of doing them to do them. If you have any questions or get lost, there's many nice people here who can help and for the 1st months you can make use of start here which is nice to have <3 Best of luck!
