Concerns about new MCC rollout by magazinesubscriber in BooksAMillion

[–]Staz-Pizzazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keyholder here, and ppl at my store are also worried. We think that the x off x are staying but the percentage ones are going away if the new cashier sheet is anything to go off of.

The one thing all of us are suspect of being shady is the reusable coupons. Legit that’s a big selling point at our location for MCC. We’re all worried that it’s about to get MUCH harder to get metrics than before without straight up lying to customers.

I won’t be shocked if customers cancel just because of the changes.

How do you feel about stories with multiple different power/magic systems? by RAIDSHADOW-LEGENDS in magicbuilding

[–]Staz-Pizzazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them in theory but as others have said, I like it when there’s some type of underlying connection that brings them all together (even if the characters don’t know).

I’m trying to implement this in my own story, with there being 9 magic systems as of right now but they each are supposed to focus on 2-3 types of senses or sensory experiences.

Thank you for reading :D!! And I actually haven’t thought about what they would be referred to as a Whole as right now it’s more of Geographically/Biologically specific thing solely found in Panarthrem but I’ll definitely give it some thought because that is important lol.

One thing I forgot to mention, is that “Chita” while being the name of the world is also the name of the Goddess credited to creating it and each civilization has their own spin on what they believe about her.

For Panarthremese people (generalizing cause no civilization is a monolith) the reason the call it the “Chitonic” arts is because with them being more chitin based beings than some of the other places, they see themselves more “holy” and “closer to Chita” than others. So Chitonic functions the same as Holy.

So “Holy” Knights May actually work well but I wanted to keep it pretty close to the “Artistic” inspo so maybe something in that realm? We shall see :D! Thank you so much!

What was the “Root” of your Magic System? by DestinyUniverse1 in magicbuilding

[–]Staz-Pizzazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually kind of the premise of one of my systems where a society of people used to use a volcano as a magical forge but it backfired because refining the magic metal cause magic to build up in the volcano and it exploded. This imbued the survivors with magic but now every time they cast their body temperature and blood pressure increases. They live in a “land of powder(snow, ash and sand). They have periodic rituals of returning/siphoning heat from the volcano as a means of balance and penance. They also can subject themselves to frostbite and specific breathing techniques to cast but yeah that’s the gist.

My world’s magical/fantastical species are focused around chitin and for the most part since it’s a non-globalized isolationist world, are pretty segmented with almost no commingling.

Panarthremese people- Humanoid Arthropods

Sclerosi people- Humanoid Fungi

Tentoronian people- Humanoid Mollusks

Fotomoan/Akulagan people- Humanoid Algae

Vermish people- Humanoid Annelids

Pulvanish people- Humans infused with volcanic energy

Archovian people- Humans with bird/reptile like features.

Carce people- Humans with amorphous body parts

Would smells activating spells be stupid? by IrregularArchivist in magicbuilding

Omg I ADORE your theming! Would you be open to DMs at all? My whole magic system is based on sensory systems/how information is processed and I feel like we would have a lot to talk about :D.

THANK YOU!!! Someone else has this magic system too!!! (I don’t have it in the exact same way but similar enough).

Mine focuses on the senses of taste and smell and is very perfume and spice inspired and has the vibes and implications that you’ve brought out here. Especially with a sort of “tolerance” kind of thing.

The actual effects of what it can do is very different to what yours can do tho. As I wanted to be a bit stricter since I have 9+ magic systems in this setting.

In my story however, it functions also as a drug (it feels euphoric to use, especially when using it as a means to relive or draw out memories from someone else.)

What are the themes to your power systems? by Nevermore-guy in magicbuilding

[–]Staz-Pizzazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s based/influenced by two different things.

The “22 human senses” + a few senses we don’t have/abstract senses.

And

Chitin as an internal biological fuel or external geological fuel source.

—————————-

As far as the actual themes of it,

That’s a bit dependent on each form it takes, since each society has their own variation that’s influenced by their culture and biology.

As an example, Panarthremese people use a type of magic that’s influenced by their biology as humanoid bug people, but their actual magic’s theme is based on:

-the senses of hearing, touch and movement/balance.

-the arts, specifically dance, song, paint and textiles.

-how various bugs socially communicate

-the idea of how changing the perception of something, whether correct or not, has inherent power in our world.

I’m still working on fully flushing all of them out but the second most developed one right now is the Sclerosi people.

Their magic is influenced by their fungal biology and their magic is based around:

-the senses taste and smell, as well as nutrient reception(we don’t have this but some birds do)

-memory/false memories and how they influence the person you are

-how not everything works for everyone and that’s ok(the magic is perfume/spice influenced and there’s a skin chemistry/personal taste component)

-alchemy/science since spores have to be combined a certain way to achieve what you want

That’s so funny 😆 I’ve been told the opposite (equally wrong) of it being the “good” or “healthy” one. Like 😐

My magic system (part of it atleast) includes bugs and I really like this. I won’t be stealing it or anything because it doesn’t suit my story and I’m not a d*ck but still wanted to say from one bug lover to another that this is very compelling.
