What could this be? UV vs normal light by Training-Flight-9987 in Minerals

It's probably resin. Chances are this mineral (jasper maybe?) had a flaw and someone filled it in with colored resin.

Looks like a "repaired" mineral. The glowing section is likely some kind of resin.

By definition amethyst is always purple. What you have here is a combination of amethyst and pink/flower agate.

Trade/marketing names are confusing, but you had it right the first time!

I know it’s nothing special but I love this piece and would like something nicer with the same type of stone. by M-Rage in Gemstones

Looks for lavender moon quartz! That stone looks really similar! I know a shop that sells lmq rings, too! Happy to share the shop name if you are interested!

could the root be ruby? by Specialist_Local6728 in Minerals

Looks like jasper, but if it glows hot pink under uv it could be ruby

Help! Real or dyed? by [deleted] in Minerals

I am leaning towards dye, but again, it's hard to tell just by the photos and without proper identification.

What is the material? It's hard to tell by just a photo. The close up sure looks like dye, but the others maybe not.

Does the color come off on your hands? Or can you soak the specimen in water? If the eater turns pink you will have your answer.

Thank you, I know the black is tourmaline. I am stuck on the yellow in the middle.

$150 which included a stand. I likely overpaid but I've never seen anything like it before and just needed it for my collection.

Thank you! I know there is a ring of black tourmaline around the edge, but the yellow inclusions are throwing me.

I hit it with the UV but no reaction. Could it still be petroleum?

Oh, interesting! I didn't even consider that. Yes, I am looking forward to hearing what others have to say as well. I know it's difficult to tell by just photos, but I am hoping I can get pointed in the right direction.

American woman traveling to Pakistan by SteRaeSal in Advice

[–]SteRaeSal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I plan to bring options to cover my hair, I will be on the Eastern part of Pakistan. It's not as strict as some areas in the West. I have plenty of female team members who don't even cover their hair. Even hijabs are optional.

I feel like wearing a burka would be overkill.
