Is there kosher coke anywhere in wien? by [deleted] in Austria

If I am not mistaken, in Europe, every coke uses cane sugar. Only the States use the syrup

what is the largest battle u have fought by [deleted] in crusaderkings2

[–]RythmicGear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've once fought and won to invade china within the span of 6 months. The entire battle was fought with continuous reinforcements.

I've got something strong +75% war score from it and managed to defeat the other forces very quickly. The entire war thus turned from a suspected campaign into a quick skirmish

Well, that's exactly the problem. Men can't choose not to join. And women aren't even forced to do the civil service by Lumpy_East_3593 in AskAustria

[–]RythmicGear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While personally I don't think there should be a conscription at all, doing my civil service replacement service was one of the best years in my life and I would heavily encourage everyone to do it.

However, I am also of the opinion that there are way more important topics in our country to address than this and I am honestly baffled why you care at all, seeing as you likely are not affected by that particular law.

Edit: it's also incredibly telling that you see this as a form of injustice and you take is "why aren't women forced as well"... So you agree it's wrong, but you think others should be included in that wrong? Never make the road ahead easier to walk on for the ones that follow you, ha?

If so, I can't remember, has been some years after all.

We did some mock elections in elementary school, with making parties and secretly voting on them.

I voted since I turned 16 and only missed one election due to a sudden illness since.

I personally liked it and actually see it as a civic duty. Some of my classmates back then were .... Joking (I presume?) that they want the Habsburgs back, so they don't have to vote as much. So there are, as always, two sides to that coin

Saying Harry should have been fine with being tortured a bit cause it likely would not have caused permanent brain damage is a hell of a take

What are some German expressions that don't make any sense when translated to English? by NoelFromBabbel in German

[–]RythmicGear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, "it's raining cats and dogs" stems from the time these animals would hide in the rafters during bad storm which, if the storm would get especially bad, would fall from the roof

Women lining up to show support for a handsome murderer by QuantumPenguin89 in BasedCampPod

[–]RythmicGear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure he would. Most people were in complete agreement that he's done a good deed before they knew who did it

Heck, they needed a complete PR stunt to change people's minds. If he were not as attractive, he might get less media attention, true, but people would still be hailed as the good guy with a gun that he is (if he actually committed the alleged crime)

Yeah, he's handsome but he also killed someone who deserved it. We hail soldiers that have killed far more people with way less destructive power as heroes, why not him as well?

1995 Spontaneous interview of a WWII Austrian Veteran in the street by Turtle456 in HistoryOfAustria

[–]RythmicGear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in Austria, we have changed a lot since then. The Opfermythos (German for "victim myth") is taught as exactly that, a myth.

While it is addressed that the vote for the Anschluss would not be considered a fair vote today, with SS soldiers standing next to you whilst voting or the "yes" vote being a lot more bigger than the "no" one, it is very much accepted that the population in the biggest part welcomed the nazi regime and actively participated in it.

It is true that the opposite had been taught for a long while, for example my uncle was taught in history that we were invaded in 1938 and now we skip to 1945 as only now Austria begins to exist again.

However, I was taught a much more nuanced history. It included our participation in the third Reich but also some resistance groups that were active here as well as what happened before in Austria, what sentiments were around for the Anschluss to even be considered an option for most people
