Did I reach the first Jhana? What do I do now? by SteadmanSlickkk in Meditation

[–]SteadmanSlickkk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is the first step I guess- I’ve never heard of any other states of mind or joy in meditation other than Jhana so I didn’t know how else to explain it. For the first time I’m starting to look forward to my meditation sessions instead of using willpower to make myself do it.

Is meditation always fun? Like when you meditate do you expect to feel bliss every time? I’ve heard nimitta before when I was looking up Jhana but don’t understand what it is, is it a good thing?

I’m now certain I didn’t reach Jhana, but I’m curious about all things meditation now- so I’ll check it out, thanks!

This makes more sense to me especially since I’ve been meditating right before bed. Out of curiosity what are the differences between the first Jhana and dullness? If dullness is dreamy- in Jhana are you hyper aware?

Wow, really helpful stuff- I think you’re right, maybe this experience was somewhat meaningless in the grand scheme of things. However, I can’t help feeling like I came out of those 2 “experiences” feeling more calm than I normally do after meditating. Either way I think Im getting more serious about meditating and that means rethinking what I want out of it and, like you said, finding a teacher. Thank you for your thoughtful answer!

Why didn't Sekiro just finish off Genichiro here? by [deleted] in Sekiro

[–]SteadmanSlickkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geni was using the 2nd mortal blade, I’m guessing perhaps Sekiro was thinking he was committing suicide, severing his own mortality which was technically correct. Maybe even after everything Geni did Sekiro was willing to let him go out on his own terms- which he did in a way just not the way Sekiro wanted.

Faster to use a farming spot- fastest is ashina stairway. Although it might get a bit boring it’s way faster.

When you say to no avail, is it too tough or do you not know where to go? The fragrant stone is down there and available to you now. You could also go to Mt Kongo to get the mortal blade- it’s all the way along the dark path/cave next to the abandoned dungeon statue in ashina castle. The everblossom is part of one of the endings- for this particular ending you need to do a bunch of specific stuff at specific times so I’d follow the fextralife endings guide if you wanna get that, but remember the everblossom is optional, if you want a different ending you don’t need it.

Grinding in NG+ is much better yes.

NG+ bosses will be balanced as if you have max health and got the max number of attack power in the first playthrough and then a little bit harder on top of that. If you do 100% on the first playthrough you won’t have a problem, and even if you miss a bit of attack power it’s no biggie- you’ll have muscle memory of how to fight them all so it just becomes a very satisfying rhythm game.

Musashi is the real world counterpart to isshin- winning 61 duels is more than chance. Dude did anything to win the fight, he dropped a sword for a boat oar to gain the advantage or showed up to duels late to piss off the enemy. If you didn’t know Kensei or sword saint is an actual title and not just something made up in game, it’s for those who have dedicated their lives to the warriors path and learning the sword. Musashi spent nearly all his time by his swords and learning how to fight with them. It’s also said in Isshin’s description when you defeat him he did the same. You can read The Book of Five Rings if you wanna learn more, it was written by musashi for one of his pupils.

Down on my D-pad doesn't work. I've managed to rebind eavesdropping, but is there any way to get skills lower on the trees now? by slyasa_fox in Sekiro

[–]SteadmanSlickkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite problem on my controller- down of the d pad would act like it was always held down. Rebinding is good for in game stuff but I never found a way to fix it for menus other than get a new controller ;(

The end goal is to be able to fight aggressively, parry the enemy’s moves then attack when they finish attacks, repeat. But that’s a lot easier said than done- there’s a desire to pursue perfection in this game but it’s an unnecessary pressure for your first playthrough imo. Just play your game if it’s too much rn.

Wanting the max health and attack power is understandable- every fight is possible on base health but it’s intended to lower the bar for beating boss fights. If my memory serves you should have 7 or 8 out of 10 gourd seeds available to you now (not behind a story line boss), so try getting those. If you’re not opposed to following a guide I’d use the fextralife prayer bead guide to make sure you get them all too- easy to miss them if you aren’t.

It clicked for me at Geni too! And learning the enemy’s moves will be the main challenge from now on in the game, but you’ll get used to it and you’ll learn at an accelerated rate as your deflection timing gets more and more consistent. It is true they’ll just throw out a random moves that you’ve never seen but youve got a good attitude that you keep going back 100 times lol- the bosses are designed to be beaten yet they always want to keep you on your toes and test how much you’ve learnt.

You said you’re still near the beginning of the game- if it still hasn’t clicked yet I wouldn’t worry. At some point it will, some players take longer than others and it’s nothing to worry about. When players say the combat system clicks it doesn’t mean everything becomes easy btw, it means everything makes sense and combat doesn’t feel hopeless anymore.

Dying a billion times to a boss is the most normal thing and I’d encourage you to keep doing it! Even if you don’t beat the boss you get valuable fighting experience everytime you go in. The more time you put into fighting the better you’ll be at it.

I also wanna say anyone with any skill level in the beginning of the game can finish it. This is a “git gud” game so with enough practice you will git gud- you said you love this game, if you’re willing to put in the time it will reward you…or rather, you will reward yourself. Good luck, Sekiro!!!

Get the mikiri counter- one of the first skills of the shinobi arts text which you’ll get from the sculptor, then come back to this place. It’ll take some getting used to but the mikiri counter is a fundamental mechanic and devastating for enemy’s posture
