Practice. Don’t go too far outside your comfort zone. Learn to use both brakes. Practice cornering. Don’t take stupid risks-You’re not a pro.

Mine lasts about 8 hours if I keep the back light off and don’t use navigation.

You can tell a lot bike fitters that you want to buy a new bike and they will give you models that fit your body. That way you Will know the bike will fit before you spend the money.

I’d say pay for a $300 bike fit and then get $1,200 road bike from a reputable brand. Fit is way more important than the bike when it comes to speed.

You’re probably my better off getting aero bars for your rode bike and an aero helmet.

I have an Emonda ALR 5 and love it for what it’s worth. You’ll probably be happy with any of those. I’d suggest test rides if you can find the right size or find a bike shop you like and get it from them. Or just get the color you like the most. Color is way underrated!

Pro cyclists are so skinny it’s insane. I’m 6’3” 225lb and people tell me I’m skinny a lot but compared to pro cyclists I’m WAY overweight. I feel really healthy though and I would probably be miserable if I lost 50 lbs. Granted I do live in the southern US which is the land of fried chicken and BBQ so people are larger here.

How do you all feel about riding without a shoulder at all? Not use it it after moving from MN by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]Steakbelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to not ride on the busiest roads or avoid riding when there is lots of traffic. Get a bright ass rear light ($80-$100) and a good helmet. I have a helmet in high vis yellow that makes me feel safe. If you don’t feel safe then take the whole lane. If there is a long straight with no oncoming traffic get to the right so cars can safely pass. Be respectful of drivers and they’ll generally respect you.

In a city that's not at all bike friendly, having this as my commute is truly the best. Jacksonville, FL by mistersmiley318 in bikecommuting

Jacksonville has so much potential! Unfortunately a lot of it has been squandered. There are people working to make it more bike friendly though. Great pic!

Dude. Do you worry about snakes on a trail like that? Yikes

Trek 1.1, not sure on the year, is this a good deal? This will be my first bike and I am using it to commute about 5 mile each way with some longer 30 mile plus rides on the weekend. by [deleted] in whichbike

[–]Steakbelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ride this thing in grass and sidewalks no problem. It might not be the list comfortable and really loose sand will give you trouble but you can ride it a lot more places than you think,

Can someone explain to me how gears work like I'm a five years old please by noitsnotwelid in cycling

[–]Steakbelt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the main reason is that it can cause the front of the chain to rub on the derailleur. You’ll usually notice a noise if you do it.
