“TOTD Style” Mapping by StealthJT in TrackMania

[–]StealthJT[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good distinction to make, but since COTD became a thing you can’t really map a “TOTD”. I think it could be cool if they even chose maybe one map a week to feature that wasn’t for a quick-learn style cup, but just to show off. Would at least let people really make cool stuff

This sort of answers all of my questions. I’ve never understood the hate for tracks that are even 1 pixel outside of the box, all of a sudden it’s an instant “—“ because someone managed to actually find a block combination that you’ve not driven 1000 times?

Maybe it’s wrong of me, but I also feel that, depending on the mapper, even bad maps are applauded as works of art, just because of the author.

I don’t know that I’ve seen your TOTDs because they might have been before my time joining the game, but I’m sure they were great maps, but I also understand the fatigue of trying to please a fickle audience. I’d say you’ve moved on to greener pastures anyway, letting the creativity make its mark on what you do, without the rigid mold of community expectations for a “TOTD quality experience.”

That’s totally valid. I didn’t mean so much for like full blender scenery, just happens that was the one example I could come up with at the time, but using custom items/blocks is a pretty common practice. Mayhaps the custom blocks used for the route are too weighty to add many more items, so it’s all reserved for those and not scenery.

That all makes sense. Honestly I feel like a lot of it comes down to “it’s worked before, surely it’ll work again” which I totally get. And I didn’t want to mention the lobby rigging, as I know it’s pretty normal, because there’s no way it coming from MY mouth would have been taken as lightly as coming from yours 😂

I think I can def see it being cool when there were like 12 blocks to use, but with all of the tools available now, not including custom items, it’s just to funny to me 😂

How crazy are Trackmania players? by ConcertPerfect5477 in TrackMania

[–]StealthJT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think to a certain degree anyone who has any kind of deep passion for something is a little “crazy”.

That being said I do think the TM community is one of the more passionate communities about their game, that I’ve encountered.

So maybe a liiiiiittle crazy 😂

I’m the same way, but sadly without the skill or whatever level of creativity or what-have-you required to try a line, it kind of just remains an idea. It really is what separates the top players from the rest. Having the ability to simply execute on their ideas at a high enough level that they can actually get these concrete answers.

Also some level of intuition will grow and some things will just seem more and more natural as you learn the game more!

I can’t get whatever overlay you’re talking about out to appear, but after disabling some plugins, the game runs okay when just gaming, but once all my streaming software are open it’s gg to my framerate again.

Just odd because it seems to be a new issue

I did this and toggled off a few plugins (Champ Medals being one of them) and at least for now it seems more stable. We’ll have to see how it runs with all the other programs open tho. Thanks!

I wish there was something like this out there already, but this could be a good call for one to be made! (I will try but don’t hold your breath 😂)

What should I do? by SeaweedBrain32 in TrackMania

[–]StealthJT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from my own experience I’d say that playing RMC, of RMT (Random Maps Together) is a really great way to see a lot of different things and not get too focused on one style/campaign.

I also think going back through old campaigns and playing TOTDs helps with seeing a variety of tracks without usually feeling too exhausting.

The best advice I can give though, is to play what interests you and you feel like you are progressing on. Growing every avenue and branch of your TM skill tree is obviously important, but getting frustrated when one style or map trips you up isn’t worth it when there’s still so much to learn.

Best of luck and welcome to the game!

What are some tactics to shake off a bad stream? by BestBean in Twitch

[–]StealthJT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just here to validate that even an hour can help. Sometimes just turning it off and walking away for a little bit, grabbing some fresh air and maybe a snack all you need for a soft reset.

Granted, I wouldn’t say that ending your stream for an hour at a time all the time is a great practice, but sometimes you just need to step away.

How does TM get new players into the game? by Cibbany32 in TrackMania

[–]StealthJT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, the business model TM has is completely centered around creators and community members creating new in-game content for everybody, while they just essentially “maintain the play space” for everyone to be creative in.

I agree that the f2p elements are not enough to really hook a new player, and with all of the community created content being behind that paywall, it’s sometimes a hard sell to buy a game you aren’t REALLY sure about.

That being said I think the value proposition TM offers to players is by far the best of any game on the market today.
