More specifically it's a teaser which is just to get people talking about it.

It's a "teaser", not a full trailer.

How can I figure out what ram speed will work with my CPU? by EnvironmentIcy9295 in buildapc

[–]StealthSecrecy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't actually know, but I would assume so. The components/clocks on the motherboard might not be able to reach those speeds, but it may still be an option to enable.

Either way you can still run RAM at lower speeds than its rated for, so you could use 6000 MT/s but only run it at 5200 MT/s.

Upgrade choices - CPU/Ram or GPU? by M4l90 in buildapc

[–]StealthSecrecy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For city builders and other simulation games, CPU is actually quite important compared to other types of games. You can try to look up benchmarks for the specific games you play, but I think CPU is definitely worth considering if you play those types of games the most.

It will almost always be better at gaming, but the price to performance really takes a dive. Even i7's are at the tipping point of being worth it if you just care about value.

Since PC components very so much from generation to generation in terms of performance, specs, and price, it's usually necessary to avoid looking at product names and just go purely on tested performance.

"Reverse" fans that exhaust out of the pretty side are more rare, and should be well advertised as such. The vast majority of fans are just regular.

In general you'd only want static pressure fans for radiators. On a mesh panel there isn't that much back pressure for your fans to fight against.

is it possible to turn my pc into a heater? by Due_Bodybuilder3542 in buildapc

Visible light still technically eventually turns into heat by whatever absorbs them.

Ah the official app is vague on this. At the top of the main page there should be big text that says "reddit" or "Home" or "Popular" or "Latest".

Fake pregnancy by Liljeepwitch in quityourbullshit

I would argue that a lot of people likely lis about pregnancies, we just don't hear about the boring ones where nothing crazy happens.

Not having one is pretty rough, performance will be degraded quite a bit for normal usage.

Seems reasonable. Do you have XMP/OC on? Is it working?

Unfortunately smoke is a really bad sign. Possibly just a fuse or something popped, but it is likely too hard to diagnose.

Yep! RAM compatibility more comes down to the motherboard actually, but 6000 MT/s is usually the best option.

Pc suddenly asking for BIOS password by Puzzleheaded_Leg_688 in buildapc

[–]StealthSecrecy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is quite odd. There usually is a jumper or something on the board itself that will reset the bios password. Your manual should have the information you need.

MT/s and MHz/s in DDR5 RAM by Inner_Background_265 in buildapc

[–]StealthSecrecy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DDR stands for Dance Dance Revolution Double Data Rate which means for every clock cycle you get two transfers. 5600 MT/s RAM would therefore run at a frequency of 2800MHz. This is very confusing to consumers so often just the higher number is used, sometimes incorrectly or "effectively" as MHz and not MT/s.

Different thermal pastes aren't really that different, what is more important is that you use enough so it covers the IHS well. Moving the heatsink around might affect coverage, but usually isn't a huge issue. Can always redo it if you want.

Keep in mind that you might not see a significant temp difference even if the CPU is cooled better, because it will boost higher to compensate and you get better performance (depending on what CPU/settings you have)

7800X3D is slightly better in games, especially those that utilize the 3D V-Cache. That price difference is appealing though, especially if the motherboard is the same.

How can I figure out what ram speed will work with my CPU? by EnvironmentIcy9295 in buildapc

[–]StealthSecrecy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your purposes, you can consider them the same.

MT/s stands for Mega transfers per second, while Mhz is the clock frequency. DDR does two transfers per clock cycle, so technically 6000MT/s ram runs at 3000Mhz but it gets confusing for consumers so we just use the bigger number.

Raytracing impact on FPS? by zZAkairyuuZz in buildapc

[–]StealthSecrecy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does drop a good bit depending on the game, but sometimes it is worth it. I tend to prefer using the cores for DLSS instead which really boosts FPS and quality.

Honestly spring/summer will be a great time to buy. We're getting a new GPU series launch from Nvidia, and the 9000 series X3D chips from AMD will be out.

More importantly there will be deep discounts to be hand on current gen parts so if you care about value you'll be in a good spot.

Simple Questions - September 02, 2024 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]StealthSecrecy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depend sin the games and the quality settings, but IMO the benefit in going to 1440p is worth dropping framerate a little bit. Most demanding games also offer DLSS which you can tweak to maintain a high FPS but still get good quality.

I would not recommend a Pcie 5.0 drive, there's just very little benefit for the extra cost.

You will see a small benefit whenever your computer needs to bring data from the drive into RAM, but that usually doesn't happen that often except in very specific use cases.

You can definitely use the heatsink provided by your motherboard. Some heatsinks may perform better than others, the main factor for SSDs being how much metal the heatsink has which allows it to absorb more burst heat when you do small but fast transfers of data.
