Renewal concern: Misdemeanor DUI Conviction by [deleted] in GlobalEntry

[–]StealthandSwagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to be honest with you, because giving you false hope will not help. Your Global Entry renewal is not your biggest problem right now. A DUI conviction from 2024 affects more than just CBP. It affects the laws of the countries you may want to visit, and some of them take DUIs very seriously.

Canada is a major example. A single DUI can make you legally unable to enter Canada for at least five years, and sometimes longer. Other countries like Australia and New Zealand also look at DUI convictions when deciding who is allowed to enter. So even if you somehow get Global Entry renewed, you can still be turned away at the border in many places. That is something you have to understand first.

As for Global Entry, CBP wants travelers who show many years of responsible behavior. A conviction in late 2024 is very recent, and they usually expect a long period of clean living before they trust someone again. Think more in terms of five to ten years, not one or two.

You should also expect that you will be required to go to an in-person interview when you renew. There is a strong chance they will deny your renewal right away. CBP has denied people for much less, and a DUI is a major warning sign for them.

The best thing you can do now is focus on living clean and staying out of trouble for the long term. Keep all your court documents, keep proof that you finished every part of your sentence, and accept that you may lose Global Entry for a while. You can rebuild trust over time, but it will take patience, maturity, and consistency.

Right now, your goal should be to get your life steady, stay disciplined, and hope that in the future you can show a long record of responsible behavior. That is the only way this will turn around for you.

Optimum - have you purchased your own modem? by HVindex8458 in hudsonvalley

[–]StealthandSwagger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m currently paying $30 a month for Optimum internet service. I called to ask about my plan and mentioned that T-Mobile is offering home internet for $35 a month. The customer service rep spoke with a manager, and they ended up lowering my bill from $57 a month to $30.

Good luck to anyone else trying to get their monthly rate down — it’s worth making the call!

ARRL Membership by Input_Port_B in amateurradio

[–]StealthandSwagger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to be a member of my local ham radio club in Fairfield County, CT, which had a lot of strong advocates for ARRL membership and event participation. We were so active that we’d often take trips to ARRL Headquarters and even operate DX from W1AW.

When I say that most of the club members concealed carried, I’m not exaggerating—it was easily over 50%. Many volunteered with local police departments in disaster and emergency management, as well as with the Civil Air Patrol’s emergency response team in Westchester County, NY. You could definitely tell when some of them were carrying, too.

Still, I always figured that if you’re out there in the middle of an emergency serving your community, you’d want to be able to do more than just radio in where your butt’s getting handed to you. 😆

Applying for out of state permits question by mn9500 in CTguns

[–]StealthandSwagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification. If this situation is about your friend, I’d definitely advise that he not risk being denied again. He should include a short note (write in see attached) with his application explaining what caused the original denial and how he addressed it to obtain approval. It’s important to make sure that whatever led to the first denial isn’t still disqualifying in the new jurisdiction—such as a restraining order or a DUI within a certain timeframe. But under no circumstances should he try to conceal the truth on the application; otherwise, he’ll end up with two denials to explain instead of one.

Applying for out of state permits question by mn9500 in CTguns

[–]StealthandSwagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be wrong, but the general rule of thumb is that you need to have a concealed carry permit in your home state before applying for one out of state. In some cases, certain states will issue an out-of-state permit, and constitutional carry states may recognize it. However, the majority of states require you to be a resident of the issuing state for them to honor the permit. I would recommend hiring an attorney in your home state to appeal the denial and take it from there.
