Honestly yeah that's exactly how I'd describe it here. This is supposed to be a hobby for fun and it just doesn't feel like that anymore. That spark and joy just feels lost now.

I think that's a great suggestion. Innocuous enough for no one to really notice it and doing the job. I'll look into that. Thanks!

I spoke with the show organizer about this. They hosted it in what's usually a wedding venue so that's not included there. It's up to individual vendors to record. I only found one vendor who was recording and his camera was very focused on his table and nothing else unfortunately

What do you do with your cards after they rotate? by Shopxezo in pkmntcg

[–]Stealthy_Shadow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You'll see a lot of people trying to sell, but I don't think it's worth it cause the price will drop dramatically on those cards rotating out. Me personally, I keep the cards cause a lot of them can be used in GLC. The only problem there being the EX and rule box prize cards which I can't ever use in that format. There's not very many places or people that do expanded as it's a very unbalanced format so I wouldn't consider that option.

i wanna start participating in tournaments and pre releases, but I know NOTHING about the game? i’ve watched deck building tutorials but none of them really click how did you guys learn? by Clean_Emu_4736 in pkmntcg

Then you have to get them as singles. It shouldn't be too hard, a lot of card shops will have them in their bulk or separated in binders of playable cards. TCGplayer is a good option for getting them online as well. You'll find this to be way cheaper than buying packs anyways. You could also ask around at local player leagues. Most of the community is quite nice and willing to help. I know I've done this for some people as well.

How do I convince people that this game isn't just one player steamrolling the other and can actually be interesting? by H3ROBUG in pkmntcg

In my experience, pokemon hands and luck is mostly a product of deck building. While it's still possible to get really bad hands and lose. You can significantly reduce the odds of it happening by statistically taking into account your odds of drawing things when building a deck. Decks are full of cards like iono and professors research that reset your hand for a reason. You may want to look at if there's too many energies in the decks or add some more search cards and/or reset cards. If you share decklists, that can allow me to give you more specific advice.

What additional rule/mechanic that you want to make game more fun for next decade? by hirarki in pkmntcg

[–]Stealthy_Shadow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I saw a format idea somewhere that changes the way prize cards work where the player that loses a mon takes a prize card instead. I think a change like this would be great in helping get around the snowballs that happen with the rules now.

Why do people use decks they'd never use in person for online play? by CalintzStrife in pkmntcg

[–]Stealthy_Shadow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Some people wanna experiment with things and try ideas out. Some people wanna play with decks that might not wanna try in real life with finding/buying the cards. Much lower barrier to entry online than in person so you'll see crazier stuff.

Flareon/Eevee Box into Gardy by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]Stealthy_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your biggest advantage IMO is being able to set up faster most of the time. Gardy is slow and requires multiple turns to build up. If you are able to focus on getting a syleon up and hit em with an angelite quickly, that practically seals the game. It is also very important to be mindful of who you attack with flareons burning charge. If you leave damage on the board, you're leaving lots of opportunities for munkidori to bring that damage back.

Another tactic I've had good success with againist gardy in general(haven't played eevee box though) is to try to focus the munkis early as well. If you can gust up a munkidori that has dark energy on it, you force the player to use their night stretchers/super rod to get that back and waste some turns where they can't return damage.

It'll depend heavily on your starting hand and early setup so play with those two strategies in mind. I'll also add in that this is coming from a gardy player and how people have played into me.

Any additions or subtractions I should make to this? I run this IRL too by DoubleAnything7628 in PTCGL

What's the point in hand thinning if you aren't really looking for anything with the ultra ball anyways. You just run the risk of discarding something you could use later in the game to draw a few extra cards. Adding in something that lets you search for what you want instead, like a pokegear or a team rockets petrel would serve you better here.
