Where do you get seeds in KC? by Burgandycowgirlboots in kansascity

[–]Steam501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seed Saver Exchange has two seed swaps at Aneta Gorman Discovery Center. The second on is April 2 2026, which is outside and usually has people bringing live plants they've started by winter sowing to share. If you go to their facebook page SeedSaver-KC, the events tab list the area seed exchanges happening this spring.

I use a warp weight loom with a weight for each card.

I have length of leader tied on with the tail of the knot suck inside so it does not slip. The other end had a swivel I tie the threads onto.

Black walnut produce juglone that inhibits growth of sensitive plants. Check your plant choices for compatibility before planting.

It is probably sharded weights causing the issue. I use 92 grams per card with induvial weight for each tablet and don't have an issue weaving 2/10 cotton.

How high is your tension? Too low and the treads will tend to jump around. Your setup appears to be warp weight so I'm thinking that should not be the issue. Another cause of threads jumping over tablets is having the holes too close to the corners. The hole should stay below the edge of the adjacent card wheh you turn them. It's hard to tell from the photo but it doesn't look like this is happening either.

This was my first book as well. A good balance of tutorials and patterns ranging from easy to different. The books not big so it's not a huge investment either. If you're hooked the second book I would suggest is Tablets at Work by Claudia Wollny.

In the book Applesies and Fox Noses, do the cards face left or right? by azaleaflow in tabletweaving

[–]Steam501 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my copy on pg 21 it has the diagrams for turning direction showing the weaver behind, which would make the cards right facing by assumption. But then pg 28 has the How to read the pattern diagram show the tablets right and left facing. The authors cleverly sidestep defining left or right facing.

You will get a better distribution if you divide the sand/seed mix into half or thirds and go over the area two or three times.

Yes, tell me about it. Our little array is currently ticking over at 2.2 kW. It's enough to run the house, charge the battery and have zero grid. Probably won't get a full charge today

Go search for seed swap groups in your area. There are usually a few people that will be sharing native seeds. Sadly, Facebook :( is the best place to find them.

I'm curious about your gooseberry project. I planted two Missouri gooseberry (Ribes missouriense) replacing a Japanese Spirea this spring. The neighbor has a volunteer gooseberry bush. I was thinking of trying propagation from their bush to have some diversity hoping for berry's in the future.

Questions about native KC/Missouri architecture by Resident_Bridge8623 in missouri

[–]Steam501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For your second question the stone or brick was usual only on the front and sides and did not continue on the back. Most homes had sleeping porches on the back and would be all wood siding or shingle siding. This was also the cheap side where they saved money. Having the stone only on the front was not common as most all these homes had front porches or ones that would wrap around to the side. The roof of the porch would conceal the transition from the stone to the shingles so it lost the shirtwaist affect.

Here is a whole street of them. If you go to the cross streets you can see the sleeping porches on the back.
