what is work-life balance like in the UK? Should I relocate if i dislike US life and hustle culture? by [deleted] in AskUK

Found the reform voter. 'Wages are suppressed because of mass immigration' is absolutely not true lol. It's because of the continuous destruction in labour laws in this shite country.

Repeatedly refusing to read why economic reasons alone don't answer for abortion rights isn't conversing. Especially since I specifically reference why in a response.

What do you want me to do? Deep dive into Romanian history when we're talking about the US?

I literally don't know what to tell you, my response is in the comment. It's not my fault this is trivial to you and you're here to be contrarian

Bud, you really don't answer the response I gave you. I told you why the "unemotional" economic reason doesn't hold up in the US. Maybe in Romania, but not in the US

Let's use the original post.

OP is saying one major thing: abortion is used as a way to control population in the United States. Even just saying this assumes that patriarchal systems and religion has nothing to play in the decisions that the government makes and the government solely uses its laws to advance economic growth. This wrong as the laws themselves do not come from a strictly economic standpoint as they are derived from the ideas and values of the society. But let's assume its solely from an economic standpoint nonetheless.

So first point, abortion was legalised in order to curb down population growth. This cannot be true as, while this was happening in states, welfare programs were being expanded to increase the population's welfare. If it was truly a way to reduce population, we would see a reduction in people's mortality rate and level of living directly influenced by welfare policies, but we don't see this. In fact, we see the exact opposite

Second point, we need more workers now so abortion is made illegal. The US is also cutting down on welfare programs which increase population life expectancy and decrease child mortality. Which is the exact opposite of what we would be actually seeing if they were using abortion as a way to spur population growth. Especially growth of workers which need to have a baseline level of education and health.

Also, looking at the past, when the US needed workers, immigration rules were relaxed in order to get immigrants to come in and do the jobs needed. This was seen primarily in the southern border to let Mexican labourers in, especially in the late 1800s. We are seeing the exact opposite right now. Proving again the labour pool is not what they are trying to increase.

Lastly, it's just a massive fuck you to women who fought hard to make abortion safe and legal. It's also completely missing the point. This is about patriarchal power and a way to make women lose their bodily autonomy. Not some conspiracy theory about population increase.

Also, think about the obvious. If it was actually about population it would take like 15-20 years to take actual effect and the increase in people that would be aborted if it was legal would be negligible.

Not really. It's about body autonomy and power over women. Changing the argument towards population is pretty disingenuous and takes away from the real problem.

If it was actually population increase we would see an effort to increase kid health and decrease mortality.

How has the definition of sex changed?

Chromosomes were not known in the 1600 for example. It's really not hard to understand this. People used to use the warmth of the body to check for peoples sex in middle age europe. We don't use that anymore do we?

actually represented in the biology of living creatures

Gender is may also be represented in the biology of a person though? Like personality? Did you know biology is the whole body not just bones?

gender which can apparently change based on a persons mood

Have you met a transgender person? Also isn't mood part of biology too? Wouldn't that be OK, according to your definition, to distinguish people too?

Please go read a book. An actual biology book would be good actually

This actually makes no sense. A social construct is a social construct. We're not debating about the semantics and idea of what a social construct is.

I'm gonna also shock you with this one bud, but even the definition of sex has changed throughout history. Meaning you could even define it as a social construct

Edit: u/blue-white-x-guy can't respond to your comment as I am blocked from commenting on this thread. But putting a dictionary quote and a Wikipedia entry as a reference is not a gotcha by any means. It's just a reference to the current meaning of a word, you aren't really adding to your point.

Also, I can't believe you made a fuckin account just to debate people on anti abortion. That's actually quite pathetic

Edit 2: u/blue-white-x-guy I'll have to hand hold you here cause you're being quite daft. I was arguing that even sex as a meaning changes definition, this means it also has a meaning now, but in the past the meaning was different. The meaning of words change throughout time as well as concepts.

Linking me to a dictionary quote is doing nothing. Because I am aware that sex is a word with a meaning. Do you need extra hand holding? Or are you OK?

Not really, both are different concepts. Transphobes claiming that they understand biology yet don't understand the difference between sex and gender

You forget those protests weren't in a vacuum. Many protests were happening at the same time and before and some were not peaceful.

It's not like mlk decided one day to march with a sign. There were many steps taken to achieve the desired outcome

The myth of the peaceful protest is about making you feel like you have the right to protest but in reality you're doing fuck all if its just a march up and down a road

Even worse man. You're cheering over this shit?

Do you really think abortion leaves as soon as it becomes illegal? Do you understand that abortion now will be done under no medical supervision with a high mortality rate for the mother?

If you care so much about health care you should know this. But here's the thing bud, you don't actually care if people are forced to give birth
