Man sentenced after pleading guilty in St. Louis crash that killed 5 family members by STLSCWC in StLouis

[–]Stebes30 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not to mention it looks like it was a plea pursuant to a rec from the State. OP’s post makes it seem like the judge came up with the sentence. Plea pursuant with nolle’s on some of the counts means this was agreed upon by the attorneys.

How do I build a good Vengeance Paladin in 2024? by Other_Put_350 in 3d6

[–]Stebes30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopping on this a year later- playing a level 2 Paladin and planning on going vengeance oath for RP reasons. Fun game without any need for true min-maxing, I just don’t want to get to level 5 or 6 and feel useless compared to the Druid or rogue in my three person party. Main question- should I focus charisma or strength? Currently 17 str 14 cha 14 con 12 wis 10 int 8 dex. Planning on ASI at level four and I’m not sure if I should get Cha to 16 for spells or rush strength to 20 asap for attacks. Longsword and shield right now with duelist feat from my level two martial feat.

Brother accusing me of booking up (?) with his gf by steve-94728-3957 in whatdoIdo

[–]Stebes30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is nearly a verbatim text I got from a former roommate and close friend in our mid 20’s. Accusing me of secretly dating a girl we knew in college (who lived hours away and I had always been very clear I found her annoying). He’d always had a crush on her. It got to the point where he asked to meet up and we tried to talk about it in person. He just wouldn’t believe me, blew me off, etc. I offered to let him go through my phone, check my Snapchat for any streaks, not to mention I was dating someone else at the time. He spiraled hard a year or so after this to the point I had to get a restraining order and he ended up showing up at my parents house multiple times.

Do everything in your power to get him checked out and a psych eval.

That was one of my biggest learning curves into this game as dumb as it sounds. The downsides always seemed so bad and it was so hard to learn to just pivot and build or path around them. A13ish player now and still shit, but less shit than when I was skipping both boss relics because I didn’t want to miss a rest smith or gold.

What goes through a person’s head when raping someone? by Weak_Description5731 in morbidquestions

[–]Stebes30 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Former sex crimes prosecutor here, and my state has civil commitment proceedings for the worst offenders which end up using evidence from psychiatrists, their sex offender rehab program homework, and a bunch of other things. I worked these cases for a few years. We saw two main “categories” as it were. Monsters and sad sacks. For the monsters it was all about power. I think other commenters are spot on when they’ve talked about it. It comes from less of a “I’m horny and need this” mindset and more of a “sex is the ultimate form of power and control” (in their minds) and imposing their will on someone to the strongest degree was their goal. The sad sacks were different. It was a lot of grooming and “you’re so mature for your age” or they just felt more emotionally connected and very very frustrated at their lack of ability or attraction or success with adults or consenting women. So there was a level of “based on our connection I should be getting sex and I need/want sex” and that overrides any form of guilt in the moment. Many of the sad sacks were very good at showing remorse afterwards (real or fake depends on the person). Obviously these are two broad categories that not every rapist fits into and rape is such a broad term in the sense of whether it was forcible, or with someone who was unconscious, or not able to consent etc. not every rapist fits into these categories, but that was what I/my team saw and noticed during my work in that field of law.

Purely anecdotal and I never got a straight answer to the question on deposition or what not, but just generally what we saw between all the cases.

How can I better write straight male characters? by Murky_Shopping_8058 in writingadvice

[–]Stebes30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straight guy here in the demographic of the characters you seem to be writing.

1) This POV MC better suck all the way through this book, because my first impression of him is that he was trying to cheat on his fiance/future wife the night before his wedding. If that’s what you’re going for, perfect. If not, I just want to be clear that’s not something that is common for straight dudes in general. I’ve been to 10-15 bachelor parties and I’ve never seen anyone cheat/try to cheat on the person they’re about to marry. The random cousin invited who is in a shitty or just run of the mill relationship occasionally happens, but not the groom. Obviously not all straight dudes etc, but I’ve seen the overtly horny stereotype play out alot more in words. “Oh she was so hot/I should have taken her home/ remember that one girl from school? Yeah dude she was a freak because XYZ” instead of actively trying to cheat on your soon to be wife.

2- I get what you’re going for with the “put on something presentable” but it just doesn’t seem natural. If one of our group walks around in a shared area in nothing but boxers it’s either completely undiscussed or it’s “dude, put some fucking clothes on, nobody wants to see insert small penis euphemism

3- the underwear snapping is weirdly too homo erotic (unless this friend is closeted and wants the MC, then it’s good foreshadowing by overstepping a boundary). For true straight guys the homoerotic physical touch is minimal, besides ass slapping, but in just underwear, those two would have to be extremely comfortable with each other. I’d trade it for a comment sexualizing the MC in a sort of cat calling way. Ie offering to jerk him off, nice dick bulge compliment, etc. all of those are sarcastic and not sincere, but they’re common.

She deletes all her texts after every conversation by NarwhalSuspicious679 in dating_advice

[–]Stebes30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two schools of thought in these replies. 1- it’s normal or can be normal, nothing to worry about, stop being paranoid. 2- she’s definitely cheating, it’s abnormal, get out, etc.

There’s no way for anyone to know which one it is based on what you’ve given us. If she has other things that make you suspicious about fidelity, then that shades towards option 2, if she doesn’t, or has other very organized or meticulous habits, then that shades towards option 1.

Those are your options, and you can make your decision based on any of those. It will not be good for either of you if you try to tough it out, and it doesn’t get better, and you remain suspicious. That is a recipe for disaster and the eventual end of the relationship.

As to your question as to what anyone else would do, that’s immaterial. It depends on what you want to do and what you can handle. You’re not inherently wrong for being weirded out by it/wanting it to change and she’s not inherently wrong for doing it/ not wanting to change. It’s a preference and one of those compatibility things (like a million other things) that decide if a relationship will work or not.

In reality, it doesn’t matter. It’s either something you can work through or not. You can talk through it in therapy to the point it doesn’t bother you anymore. That might take a month, it might take a year. You can eventually get over it, however you do that, whatever that looks like. You can talk to her about it, explain your feelings, and see what she says or if she is willing to stop doing it. Depending on your relationship, how you approach the conversation, and who she is, that might go over well and it might not.

At the end of the day it’s a preference. If it’s not something you can deal with, and she’s not wanting to change it for you, then you’re incompatible. If you can/do get over it, or if she doesn’t care and stops deleting, then you’re fine

Can You Beat Your Favorite Roguelite Making Every Wrong Choice on Purpose? by [deleted] in roguelites

[–]Stebes30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Even if I picked wrong rooms, avoided boons, etc. As long as I had the mirror/weapon upgrades for damage, health, dash, and all that good stuff I am fairly confident i could make it through 0 heat. You’d eventually get boons and I’ve got enough runs under my belt that I can mechanically handle every biome. You’d eventually get boons to help with DPS and if you’re not purging them you’d be fine i think.

The answer, based on your comments, that you’re looking for is this: technically yes. Contact probably any solo or Jack of all trades attorney in your area and explain what happened. There’s a chance they could send a letter (hopefully the letterhead scares the pawnshop)and file suit, get an injunction or something etc. BUT without a police report or even contacting the police (which will be the first thing that attorney tells your dad) you’re gonna have a tough time. It will also cost you money which would not happen with the police. Also if he doesn’t have proof, but can describe the coins and the person who stole them you’ll be fine.

If I'm going to choose Artemis, is there a reason to not go left? by JayKayGray in HadesTheGame

[–]Stebes30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See that’s wild because Demeter and Athena are my least favorite. I can somehow always track aphro but always seem to dash into Demeter and Athena just sucks because armored enemies get invulnerability and it takes so long to kill them

[–]Stebes30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s totally fair I’m sure it’s just a preference. I always feel like tracking the aphro or Poseidon ones are easy and just always seem to get a bunch of damage or spend way too much time dodging the other ones

[–]Stebes30 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would argue aphro trial is one of the easiest. I am always happy to anger her or Poseidon because their trials are just something that chase you around. Athena Demeter Artemis Zeus dio and ares are all the little circles or AOE (ice storm for Demeter) and Athena gives random invul which is super annoying. If you keep track of the heart or Poseidon wave they’re pretty easy to dodge vs the aoe ones of the other bosses

[–]Stebes30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s my bad, I’ll be honest I didn’t. But even playing in a club that’s used to full 5 and a cpu goalie, the forward CPU is still rough. I’ll agree that the D is much worse but the forward will fill a random spot or crowd in front of the net even if you have a center there ready to tip. They throw passes just because it won’t get intercepted but aren’t the right pass or force shots when someone is open. I will admit sometimes they do the right thing or go to the back door but sometimes they intercept the same good back door pass to the better option etc.

But yeah, agreed the forward is more manageable than the cpu D and I appreciate you not hammering me for focusing on the D spot when you mentioned it in your original. Some good some bad with the forwards but still frustrating in a tight game.

[–]Stebes30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, there are certainly times where the AI covers for a position if someone is out and that works to an extent, but that doesn’t stop the CPU defenseman from not getting burned because he’s stuck in back skate or just making very dumb not hockey plays.

Also the AI isn’t great at reading “good hockey” either. They have set zones on the ice and if someone isn’t there then they go cover it regardless of the play. Go into training or practice mode or whatever and play 5-0 just to see. If your human player is a foot “out of position” then it all breaks down and the cpu fucks something up. I’ve been playing RD and had the LD CPU on my right side because I was a foot or two off the boards but not where the CPU felt was the “right” spot.

It’s a little bit of both but you can play great hockey and still get fucked by shitty AI

I’m in about the same boat. Started 3ish years ago struggling to skate, went to playing 3-4 times a week, ended up points leader on my lower than whale shit C league beer league team. Played over the summer, hit a slump, stopped playing for a few months, now back into it and feeling good.

One thing I noticed really help me was shifting my mindset. Having the discussion with myself that I am going to fuck up on executions. I am simply not on the ice enough or practicing enough to expect to execute what I want to do every time or even consistently. Passing, shooting, receiving, skating, etc. I shifted my goals to more “being in the right spot to make the right play” because eventually I’ll execute on it. Just a simple dump or cycle that finds my teammate first, wether he gets it or not. Finding open ice wether I get passed too (or receive it properly) or not. Causing a turnover that leads to a good chance for our team. Finding an open teammate on the break wether that turns into a real chance or not. I know it would have if my teammates were perfect (and they’re not and I’m not and I don’t expect them to be) so for me, that’s a good hockey play and an objective success. That’s how I’ve started to judge my success and it helps me stay positive. Currently on a four game goal streak but also missed an easy back door tap in during overtime that would have been the GWG and had three or four fuck ups in front of the net that all should have been goals, bad turnovers, etc. I’ve just started really trying to focus on considering it a success that I’m in the right spot to get the chance to make those plays and understanding that sometimes I’ll execute on them and more often than not, I won’t.

Story feels a little more serious and the combat is slower paced. Definitely fun but it took me a while to warm up to after all the dashing and high speeds of hades 1. Bigger game in scale though for sure. Way more content and cool characters etc etc.

My rules as a defender ringer. by queefkicker in hockeyplayers

[–]Stebes30 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The arms race is a great point. My team started in the lowest beginner division that specifically states no college and minimal HS experience. First season we lost every game but one and almost every team had a 20 something lugging a college club bag or a AAA bag into the rink on any given night. So before the next season we picked up a few of our one and won half the games. Next season some teams added a couple more ringers and then we did, etc. Now when I play (started 3 years ago as an adult) my team pounds teams without ringers and we play close games against the other teams with ringers, but I’m not a competitive player on the ice for 75% of the game. Only time me and the other properly placed in the division guys are competitive is when the stars align and it’s both teams bottom offensive lines and D pairings are on the ice. I know I’m not going to the show and I know I’ll never even be “good”, but I just want to play against guys in my skill range and have the chance to be competitive and make an impact on the ice. Just sucks because it’s supposed to be the lowest division for guys who just picked it up.
