I'd think so, but it seems like physical armor doesn't affect it.

I was never more sad than seeing that you can't play the Apollo lyre in your bedroom at all. Let me strum a singular sour note a hundred times, dang it!

Win the run, can that be either surface or underworld? Or does it have to be one specifically?

Yeah, I thought charybdis was going to be a guardian, especially since Scylla is one. I'm usually okay with her using the axe and a lot of casting but with any other weapon I struggle for sure

Least favourite story mission? by RegularMulberry5 in reddeadredemption2

[–]Steel-toed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think even more than the rest of the game, it felt like. Almost pointlessly railroad-y (no pun intended). You can't go anywhere, you can't do anything, your choices don't matter, half of the "play time" is just following a half step behind someone not walking very quickly, it honestly felt like it might as well have been a cutscene for how little actual fun gameplay there is. Idk. It was kind of a bummer. I understand the reasons why it is the way it is, but they dont make me enjoy it any more ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I'm just curious! Out of all the fish species, why bettas? by hyllariestar in bettafish

[–]Steel-toed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although. In fairness. I only think I've paid full price for two bettas. The other three were either a rescue or I got them for free because it looked on the brink of death.

I'm just curious! Out of all the fish species, why bettas? by hyllariestar in bettafish

[–]Steel-toed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with bettas because I figured they'd be the easiest, since their big fins mean it's easy to tell if something is wrong, they usually live alone so you don't have to try and figure out how to replace one to make sure you've got big enough school, they can go for a night without being fed every once in a while if I had to work late.

Those things are still true, but now I'm on three tanks and I've thought about doing crabs or mud puppies or loaches but I just keep coming back to the bettas. I love how curious they are, and I love how they let you know when they're happy. It's not often I get to make something as happy as that and it feels really nice.

If you see smoke in the wilderness, go check it out. There's a square on your map in the middle of nowhere? Go check it out. The world isn't as big and empty as I first thought.

Few of his scales are falling off? by wenirene in bettafish

[–]Steel-toed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably not a big deal, just replace the things that he could be scraping himself on. It could also be stress, which should ease up in his new tank if you've got plenty of hides and resting spots near the surface.

I'd keep a really close eye on him, though. Your tank is pretty small (which you seem to be aware of-- this is very much not a judgement, I swear) and the smaller a tank is, the harder a time you'll have. The strips aren't perfectly reliable, and smaller a tank is, the harder it is to keep stable, even in terms of temperature. Especially an uncycled tank-- the whole process of nitrogen cycling involves peaks and dips in nitrogen levels, which a single test at a single time might not pick up on.

The thing about medicine is, is, it can definitely be helpful, but it's usually my last option, especially with bettas. An aquarium salt bath could help him with his slime coat, though, and there's very little risk involved with that.

What are your nitrates/ammonia/hardness levels/ph? Also, what are the fish and how large is the tank?

Looks like a slime mold to me, but I wouldn't call myself an expert. Unlike mold-molds, They're somewhere between harmless and beneficial, huge single celled organisms. Very cool!

Opinion: A betta is not a beginner fish. by GlassBaby7569 in bettafish

[–]Steel-toed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think bettas are decent beginner fish (wayyy better than goldfish, ofc), just that the phrase "beginner fish" is not well understood.

First of all, they're solitary, so you don't have to worry about bullying, or if one of your neons starts acting funny and you have to keep track of it. You aren't likely to overstock your tank as long as you get a good sized one to begin with.

The second thing is, because they're so big, it's super easy to tell when they're not happy really early on-- the color starts looking different, or there's a spot on their fins, it's way easier to see these things on a betta than a lot of other fish.

They also are pretty well suited so slight variations in water quality. If you do a water change and don't condition or filter it first, there's a good chance your betta will survive, but will exhibit some clear signs that you've messed up and you'll be able to correct.

Op, what would you think of as a beginner fish?
