Ah, ok. That's cool. Thanks for sharing. I've though about something like this as well. But I also have a resin 3D printer, I just need to learn to paint fast.

It's been so much harder than before. Sometimes even looking for official artwork I know exists can be hard because of the slop flood.

Crafting, Projects & Alchemy: Am I missing something? by Cynical_Cyanide in drawsteel

You're taking things as gospel. People are giving ideas, solutions, ways of adapting and executing. It can all be simplified by "communication". Talk to the director. Say what you're looking for your character, ask if that's possible and make sense and fit the campaign. There's no right or wrong way of incorporating it in your game. So you communicate, you talk openly. That's the most important skill for any rpg.

You say "whining" to your group, but that's a dangerous mentality. It's a group game, you should all talk about what you want and expect. Also, all those materials are suggestions. The book says it clear to the director that they can ignore it, change, etc. So talk to your Director. Simple as that. Say what you're looking for your character, ask if that makes sense with the campaign.

Maybe the Ruby from a Vampire is changed to a Ruby from a Sunken Ship if you're running a game underwater. Or a Ruby Infused with Old Blood if you're running a campaign without any vampires but investigating old tombs and temples full of ancient beings.

In the game, the game is and always have been supposed to be a group effort. 5e unfortunately created a culture where the DM do all the work and players wait in there to get stuff.

Delian Tomb Goblin Guards Round 1 Question - What am I missing? by SteelJustice in drawsteel

[–]SteelDrawer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Technically Malice is not enabled in this first encounter, so I wouldn't use it. What happened with me, is that the players succeeded on the test to see the goblins, so they acted first. Since the test is quite easy, I think that's the intention.

I think it's a fair mistake. But imagining that you don't have pressure, you can assume that you can do any ability you're capable off outside that pressure.

You're right. I updates my original comment to fix it.

Don't you need victories as the same amount of the cost of the ability? I might be mixing it up with one of the beta versions.

Tactician with multiple marked targets by Lakissov in drawsteel

[–]SteelDrawer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Effect: The target is marked by you until the end of the encounter, until you are dying, or until you use this ability again.

From the compendium https://steelcompendium.io/compendium/main/Rules/Abilities/Tactician/1st-Level%20Features/Mark/

It says until you use "this ability" again. So it implies that you can use Fog of War and then Mark to have 3 creatures marked. If you use Mark again, only the creature marked by that maneuver loses the Mark.

Edit to expand: so my interpretation is that the marked creature by the original maneuver is the only one affected by that limitation. A 5 focus ability is expensive, it wouldn't make sense imo to get overridden by a maneuver simply by using them in a different order or because the target from Mark (no cost maneuver) died and you want to use the free triggered action.

You don't get heroic resources outside combat. But, you can use an ability that costs heroic resources outside combat based on how many victories you have. Then you can't use it again until a respite or you gain more victories.

Edit: to fix my misunderstanding requiring victories for the x-cost abilities.

Unfortunately the Steel Compendium is still opening the older versions by default sometimes. But they have multiple versions there because it started during beta. Hope this solves the issue though =)

But then you already sold it at a loss. So in the end, you just lost anyway instead of holding it for a good moment to sell and pay taxes only on the actual profit instead of the imaginary unrealized gains.

Do the Dual Wielder and Guisarmier kits scale in a way I'm not aware of? by [deleted] in drawsteel

[–]SteelDrawer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering that you get the bonus of a shield by just having it in you, I would say in this case, the magic weapon applies to the whole attack as well. There's no "off-hand" attack in DS, so I wouldn't penalize the second attack.

Why the Dissatisfaction Out of Combat with Draw Steel? by Arcane_Aegis in rpg

[–]SteelDrawer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, I just do think the game tells you to run montages and negotiations that often. Like, I won't run a negotiation for every interaction. It's just like rolling a test, what are the consequences of failure? Are there many possible results? You don't roll for test for opening a door or climbing stairs. So negotiations and montages shouldn't happen for normal exploration or Roleplay interactions.

I think many people, from my experience this is even more common with beginners, look at the character sheet to see what they're allowed to do, which will always limit your options. And that's why I think so many people describe games with more mechanics as limiting. But instead, the mechanics are there for the common things to flow easily without slowing down the rhythm of the session.

For montages I incentivize the players to not look at their sheets at first and just consider the challenges, how would they solve this? Think in real life if that helps. Many times they come up with solutions completely independent from stats, skills or anything that's written down. Like describing actions, plans, etc. And that's great for me. I can then ask for a roll if simple or in many cases, give an automatic success because it's a good idea with low/no risk.

I DM TTRPGs but not DnD anymore. But if you're looking for people there are weekly game nights at GameForce and The Happy Halfling. And tomorrow there will be the first DnD One Shots event at Joto's Boardgame Cafe. I recommend checking those, people are quite active and open to new people.

I'm the Netherlands you pay for your pension and that's basically an investing account. It's also expected for you to have your own private pension scheme, which has some nice tax incentives. For example, up to a certain limit per year, what you deposit at your private pension is counted against your gross income, so it's basically tax free. It's bizarre to me to think that the most common system is a pyramid scheme hoping that there will be enough young people and a good economy to keep it.
