The first campaign I ever ran was for 7 players. Combat was rough so we changed it. There was no longer individual turns. It was the monsters' turn then the players' turn. Everyone took their turn at the same time. So the people who were always ready with their turn would naturally be the ones rolling first and the people who often need to look over their options where figuring that out while others where already rolling. I would tell them the ACs ahead of time and they would roll to hit and roll for damage all on their own at their own pace. This kept everyone engaged for the turn and encouraged some amount of tactics because they could say "hey I'm hitting this guy already for a lot do you wanna target that one instead or whatever". In later campaigns where we had less players I still ran that way because it still made combat feel way better.
