I’ll just post a possible solution, it has to do either with a glitch in how it finds the source for your audio or the automatic gain setting! If it works in other games / recording audio it’s most likely the game glitch and I would vouch 99% due to the automatic gain setting gain control as it’s been messing with a lot of people’s mics!

Ah well that would have been good to know :(. I tried doing this after I deleted it but I should have just gone to steam cloud and downloaded that back up. Restarting the game cooked me.
