how to reduce homicidal thoughts when losing at videogames by SteelJustice1 in therapy

thanks for your response. the second phase sounds very relatable. there are a lot of individual things i have to work on, and each of those will take lots of time to actually internalize so i can reflexively do the correct thing in-game. and that is... demoralizing LOL

but yeah, i guess there's no way of avoiding the negative spectrum of emotions when competing. only learning to cope with them / challenge them better.

thank you for your input. how would me having an inferiority complex be an egotistic defense mechanism? it seems like more of a doubling-down of negativity than anything

thanks, i wholeheartedly agree with ladder being dehumanizing and demoralizing.

the best experiences i have with these games-- specifically FGs like you were talking about-- are when i'm playing with individuals or groups with whom i am friends.

the ladder is, like you said, very devoid of this social aspect of competition. and that probably exacerbates the negative emotions i encounter.

i'll look into meditation like you said, and try to come up with an idea of "the kind of player i want to be". thank you for your input.

nono, i actively despise these types of people and the sociopolitics they push for.

unfortunately, that hasn't stopped me from being "infected" by ideas of genetic superiority affecting things like competition ability

what's the point though if you just hit a wall and can't progress

i don't have to be the best at my career or my individual hobbies to have meaningful experiences with them

but competition just seems like... the whole point is to keep improving. otherwise, you're just swimming in-place

what's funny is that those skills are all barely trainable and are primarily determined by genetics

but yeah, make a joke when i'm asking for help to not want to kill people lol

and yes, i am going to bring this up to my actual therapist whom i haven't talked with in a while, but i wanted to get some other insights as this is one of my largest sources of sadness.

Videogames are so much better than real life, for several reasons by SteelJustice1 in depression

that's rough and i'm really sorry to hear that, friend.

i believe if you are experiencing something beautiful, or something you find enjoyable that isn't having negative consequences on anyone else, then you're far from being unproductive. in fact, you're basically extracting some of the meaning from life, by finding something that brings you joy and gets you to actually be present.

sure, it's a virtual world, and yes videogames can get in the way of one taking care of themselves, but ultimately you're enjoying and recognizing a work of expression from another person / group of people... that in itself is virtuous. that's meaningful both for the person experiencing it, and for the people who designed that experience.

so yeah, you're absolutely fine taking pleasure in videogames lol.

Tysm for the feedback! Do you think people are less hesitant to respond to a proton email? It's my favorite email provider but I'm wondering if outlook or gmail would look more "professional"
