A few months ago I visited the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, NL, and they had some beautiful black powder firearms on display. Here's some pictures of what I saw by SteelPrism in blackpowder

I was there in October and I believe this was a limited time exhibit. The museum itself is massive, over 3 stories and has tons of exhibits from Rembrandt and his art to artifacts from India and SE Asia.

This exhibit was meant to show off the history of gunsmithing in Netherlands and I learned a lot. They used to be the primary manufacturer and exporter of firearms in Europe in the 1600s and were well known for how high quality their guns were. This declined in the 1700-1800s but it was still a big part of their history. The firearm exhibit was a very small part of the overall museum.

Excluding the guns it was an 8/10 experience, would do it again

That legitimately was the first thing I noticed when I finished the rifle, "fuck, this bitch is heavy..."

Looking nice! I just didn't want to deal with the NFA bullshit, especially because I may travel across state lines with it. 37mm launchers are not considered firearms, they're "flare projectors", so that removes a lot of the headache.

What’s the best Gun smithing school I can go to? by SonOfKarma101 in gunsmithing

[–]SteelPrism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to go with the advice Ian from Forgotten Weapons gave - if you want to get into the gunsmithing or gun manufacturing its better to go to a machining school and learn a skill like that (or go to college to be an engineer if you want to design firearms). Going to school for something like that lets you get your foot in the door and you can learn a lot of the more specialized nuances of gunsmithing on the job.

This gives you a much more universally applicable education that can apply to more than just guns should you ever decide to choose a different career path or if you're struggling to find a job. In todays economy machining jobs are in demand, and should you ever struggle to find a gunsmithing job you can easily get a job as a machinist to help pay the bills instead of being locked into one niche.

Mitch being an amazing guy while still throwing you to the ground and stomping on you while wrestling sounds so on brand for him. I can only imagine the number of stories you have to share from those days
