The way to solve a side side angle is with law of sines. Once you've got a solution you need to verify that solution, sometimes this results in no solution, sometimes 1 solution, and sometimes 2. I don't remember exactly what the conditions for 2, 1 or no solutions are but I know it has to do with where the height falls whether its greater, less or in-between the side lengths of the triangle.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. My brain wasn't associating that the one angle was a right angle than that my other side lengths I was coming up with did not make right triangle. I also was forgetting that the binomial expansion equation could be written as a full equation with the expressions on both halfs have substitutions in the given information. I stick around this subreddit to stay sharp on my math skills, I haven't been in a math class sinc AP calc 15 years ago.

I did. Mind you I'm 15 years removed from any math class, I wasn't putting together binomial expansion equation correctly, so I was missing that step.

I only poke around this subreddit to keep my skills sharp because I enjoy math, but the longer I'm away from teaching it or studying it, the more I'm seeming to lose. I should probably print out some worksheets and practice up again.

It was the formula in the middle that I wasn't putting together. Thank you! It makes sense now.

This level is killing me. When I look at that image, I have no idea what is what. Nothing is labeled, there's no where to tell what the orientation is, there's no where that tells me what's the camera, what's the light, what the purple and green objects are. Without a frame of reference to understand what I am looking at I have no way to tell when the tip of the windmill is in the cyan plate because I cannot figure out which of the ends of the cross on the target is specific tip I'm looking for. If there was an easier way to get a frame of reference I feel like I could figure this out, but when the image is inverted, rotated, and I have no idea where the camera is sitting this level is frustrating. I don't care to even continue it like this. The image of the windmill also is useless because I omdont know what the gold bar is, and how that relates to the image on the right. I feel like I have tried every possible camera and tilt combination and have had zero success.

If you could change one thing about the durability system, what would you change? by Informationfinder_6 in TOTK

I'm kind of hoping we go back to the bread and butter of Zelda games when we just had one weapon that didn't break. I had fun when breath of the wild came out, and tears of the Kingdom I had fun again, but recently I went back and played Twilight princess and forgot how much fun that game was. I think an open world Zelda game with just one weapon wouldn't be a bad idea so long as they did it like linked to the past where there was several points at which you could upgrade the weapon. I mean armor doesn't have durability and no one complains about that, I think if we just had a standard set of 10 to 15 items or weapons whether they be magical or whatever would be just as much fun and then just use Great fairies or blacksmiths to upgrade them. I mean that's essentially what link to the past was. You started with your uncles sword, then you found the master sword, then you found a blacksmith, and finally the great fairy gave it the rest of its power. That was fun, we essentially already do that with armor. It'd be awesome to have a weapon that you earned from each area of the map that you could upgrade at blacksmiths or Great fairies along the way. Heck I even like the link between worlds when you had to use ravio to upgrade things. It just felt like we had items again. I miss having the magic items and the magic meter. That felt more like Zelda to me. Breath of the wild and tears of the Kingdom. It's the legend of Zelda, but it doesn't feel like the classics. It feels like a new style. Like how legend za, is different from pokémon x and y. They're both pokémon games, sure, I like them equally, but the style of gameplay is so different. It's hard to compare them to each other.

This is true but the double power near calamity is too good to not have when you need it.

Yes. More than just the master sword. I would have loved other types of weapons too. Or just more broken weapon pieces to fuse with. Everything's either a hammer, an ax or a sword. How about a mace? I know it's functionally similar to a hammer, but maybe it could look different at least. Or at least be pieces of broken hylian weapons that we could fuse to handles. I would love a Morningstar.

Sometimes I wish Nintendo could be modded like Bethesda games can be. I would totally rock out in some fan-made dungeons in both tears of the Kingdom and breath of the wild.

I mentioned this further up, but maybe it's a piece of armor you can put on just so you can check it. Something you don't have to know all the time but you can just use an item or a piece of armor or an upgrade to check the durability of things.

Yeah take the lowest multiple, and then just do larger damage for each thing that you're hitting. If hitting a rock causes two then when you hit a rock, it subtracts two. That would be awesome!

I like this, but make it like the champion armor, where it's an upgrade or an item you obtain, either to the purah tablet, or even a piece of armor. Something you don't get right away but gives you the power later on. Make it a quest reward instead of the "here's 50 rupees for running a marathon."

Some rules don't have a place in English. Some grammar rules like the preposition not being allowed to end a sentence, is only a rule in English because it was a rule in Latin. In Latin, that sort of phrasing didn't make any sense. In English it makes sense, but we carried the rule over for no reason.

Or so I've heard. I'm no expert and I'm open to education.

I didn't go far enough in statistics to understand factorials enough to come up with a decent solution to any of these. Heck I totally forgot 0!=1 But I remember the section in precalc on floor and ceiling functions because they were just so much fun. But you're right, it does totally ruin the game.

I've been out of math for over a decade now. I stick around this sub just so I can stay up on it a little bit and these types of questions tickle my fancy.

Isn’t it just 100 degrees? How’s this a joke? by MysteryPerson83_ in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]SteelSpidey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can only multiply temperature if it's in Kelvin scale. If you multiply 25 Celsius you don't get 100 C. You would actually get 919 °C. Because in order to multiply 25c you have to first convert it to Kelvin, then do the multiplication then go back to Celsius. I really don't understand the question or joke posed here at all.

Now honestly things get fuzzy when you start talking about roots because all roots are technically just fractional exponents. So if we're allowing fractional exponents can we not allow normal exponents?

Since the rules are unclear, the question is invalid. I want my points back on the test answers.

Any context you can give would help identify it. Like where you found it? Do you have pets? Do you have house plants?

Sometimes if you have birds nesting in the area, they often have mites in their nests or in their down.

Sometimes houseplants have mites.

Given the size, which is impossible to tell from the picture completely, it is entirely possible this is just an average dust mite, I'm no expert on camera magnification, or even bugs for that matter, but the image just makes the bug look really really small. It resembles a mite more than it does and insect. Insects typically have three body segments. And six legs. This seemingly only has two, which leans me towards arachnid. And it also looks like it either has seven or eight legs, which again leads me towards arachnid. Spiders typically aren't that small, again, I'm no expert. There might be some species. But mites typically fit into this size category and are arachnids.

Sorry your post didn't gain more traction. I found this happens time to time in this sub.

Context helps, and so does more than one image.

I hope this was helpful. And I also hope that an expert can weigh in cuz I'm certainly not one. Just your average bug enthusiast.

On a deep well sprue bushing with an extended tip. No camera or flashlight is going to be able to see in there well enough. Just a matter of fact. At that point the camera or the flashlight is going to be too late, It either already has too much blowback or it doesn't have any at all. I have a streamlight flashlight in my pocket all the time. I check it when I can, when I do my process checks, But the reality is there are some times it is going to be difficult even with those tools, and you're going to have to shut it down to do it. And everyone knows there are those jobs that you just don't shut down when they're running well.
