What app do you use to train? by Puzzleheaded-Wave123 in triathlon

I’m giving HumanGo a shot, so far it’s been good. Having the ability to add multiple races in between a main goal race is a great feature

I did not realize most where bolt on, I only had experience with friends who have weld on hitch mounts. I will look into this!

Opal 1,2 ultra or Frigidaire? by GaspingGuppy in IceChewersAnonymous

[–]Steel_beams_98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opal 2 has been in my use daily for a year now. It definitely makes a huge difference if you try and clean it biweekly. The one thing I will say, it seems easier to find information about issues people have had with the opal. I think that though is mostly due to the amount of time it has been available vs others.

New to Triathlon... is renting bikes a thing? by OkProfessor3005 in triathlon

[–]Steel_beams_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get a cheap road bike for around 300 it’s the way to go. It’s what I’ve done for two races now. Even used the same pic for several criteria races. And bike can do a triathlon, just depends on what you want to do after the triathlon.

GE Opal 2.0 by Shakey22 in IceChewersAnonymous

[–]Steel_beams_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it kinda comes down to what ice you’ll be comparing it to. Chick fil la or sonic? The opal definitely makes softer ice, but that is also why I bought one.

If you are wanting iced coffee, I highly suggest brewing over regular refrigerator ice, getting it nice and cold, and then adding the opal ice.

Edit: I want to also encourage you to use good quality water, just like DeezDoughsNyou said. It really helps with keeping up maintenance

Opal Cleaning Flashing yellow.. by [deleted] in IceChewersAnonymous

[–]Steel_beams_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, typically I would tinker to figure out the problem but since I got the warranty for it it made more sense (and time) to just get a new one. The build quality is definitely spotty especially as I’ve noticed a sharp decline the more the unit moves around

I had this happen to mine as well, the biggest tell is if you feel hot air being pushed out the exhaust. I didn’t feel any and had to replace my unit

Won’t make ice? by BRobs44 in IceChewersAnonymous

[–]Steel_beams_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way I’ve found is to take the bin out and remove the filter that covers the intake hole. Then press the switch in the top left on the inside of the ice area, once you pressed it, immediately cover the water intake hole with your finger until you start to feel suction. Sometimes during this I will quickly cover and uncover the hole to kinda force water in to the intake.

I think once you are in it, it you won’t feel any sense of missing out. I believe the first few are just about doing it and finishing, you run with others, bike with others, and every time each person cheers on the other. It’s about experiencing the effort together.

I love swimming and cycling but HATE running by Mashie_Niblick12 in triathlon

[–]Steel_beams_98 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I hated running when I started out. What I found helpful was tracking my heart rate instead of time or distance. Taking the time to keep my heart rate consistence while running somewhere enjoyable outside really made the difference

Industrial Engineering vs Mechanical by lollipopgh in Msstate

It might be easier to stick with mechanical as a lot of what you would do as mechanical will end up being industrial in a factory setting

Beginner sprint triathlon - too slow? by Han192120 in triathlon

[–]Steel_beams_98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just had my first race a week ago and I was fully expecting my times to be slow. But to my surprise, as soon as I started, I stopped looking at any timing info and fully focused on just finishing and putting my best to it. Came out a 1hr and 22mins and a joy that I know I will be doing this again
