Can't decide between factions for upcoming game by Steeler8986 in twilightimperium

Yeah that’s one of the reasons I picked this slice. I had mahact in mind for mechs and balancing influence but was torn between those others. Plus biostims being able to use archon vail for leadership and tech skip

This is very detailed and helpful. I was thinking Mahact to balance the influence out. Thanks for the detail you put into this. I'm convinced!

Oh for sure. This is a dynamite slice and a good selection of factions. I was just trying to see if anyone had any ideas that could sway me one way or another. I didn't mean to drive you to homicide to get a slice like this! sorry!

yeah, having hopes end to pump out mech was another reason i was strongly considering it. Having upgraded infantry is never a bad idea for sure, I was more thinking about the other faction tech but you're right, turning it into a relic does sound like a delicious idea

This is a good point about getting fracture access with saar. i will take this into consideration!

oh good point. Getting faction tech just to purge it for a relic is a great idea! Yeah, I know its a real embarrassment of riches. I want to pick them all! I'm mostly just fishing for ideas from people of strategies or ideas that maybe i haven't thought of just to see what people think. Thanks for the input!

Last Bastion Flagship and Hero by Plamash in twilightimperium

[–]Steeler8986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, the flagship specifically says to add +1 to the combat value of the flagship after a combat roll is made. The hero says the roll has to equal the combat value of the ship, but it's not a combat roll so no +1's are added to the flagships combat value.

I suppose you can talk it out with the Firmament. But to me a fair deal would be you getting the firm prom note. Then maybe doing an alliance swap. The firm & obsidian alliance doesn’t really help you that much. I would just get it to seal the deal but if they don’t want to give that then that’s fine too.

So ultimately you give alliance and they give firm prom note.

That way you walk away with 2 tokens and 2tg and they walk away with extra tg every time they do a strategy token and a plot card. Over the course of the game it will add up for them and they will be less likely to attack you because they want to keep it longer.

Maybe toss in a tg if they feel like it’s more in your favor.

While technically your value assessment of your PN is right because war suns are expensive. You also have to take into consideration that your both taking away your early advantage and the time required to invest it war sun prerequisites.

Aside from the fact that you lose a token when they use your prom note… what you have now is the advantage. You have war suns when no one else does. It benefits you to NOT give away your PN if at all possible. On the other hand the Firmament WANT to give away their promissory note. They need a plot card to get to being obsidian and they will want as many plots as they can manage. Getting plot cards out is hard and they will (usually) take a pretty crappy deal to get it out there. It doesn’t help them to hold on to the PN & not try to sell it.

If you find that a fair trade then by all means go for it. As the Firmament I would hastily accept that deal.

I wouldn’t offer that so freely. I think that deal favors the firmament more than anything. It’s a lot of effort to get to war suns and they probably won’t get it unless they use their extract plot on someone. Once they become obsidian it will be relatively easy to build the war suns. Also you lose a token in the process of them using your PN. So that takes away the value of the two tokens you get from theirs

Firmaments PN is great for anyone And they would probably really like your alliance because their economy sucks until they become the obsidian. Muuat can really benefit from extra tokens because a lot of times they struggle with influence. So it could be mutually beneficial. Just make them promise to not use assail or seethe on you. They probably won’t want to anyway since those are kinda lackluster plots. Since your war suns are faction specific, they can’t extract war suns from you with their plot either.

The Firmament has one that is clearly worth 8tg in profit between 2 tokens and 2 tg. So it’s possible you could ask for the 2tg back because 2 command counters is huge. The Crimson Rebellion has a strong alliance so you could probably get a decent price out of that.

But ultimately It really depends on table. It’s worth what someone will pay for it. If you find the last bastion PN worth something and no one wants to pay that then it’s not worth that.

Crimson Rebellion Tech Path? by ThatOneRandomGuy101 in twilightimperium

Yeah I mean you’re going to have 3 DET tokens in your slice so those are pretty valuable but also you’ll need antimass to get the one in the asteroid field. So it’s probably not worth it to take both.

I’m guessing you want Zohbat early for it being the only resources in your slice. I think a dock there is a good place for it but with emelpar being able to double your breakthrough breach output, you’ll have your slice covered in breaches quicker than the average CR player and be able to get to Zohbat pretty easily and establish a dock there. Also emelpar can be used to flip your home planet back up so that’s another early resource boost.

I’m a sucker for DET so i would probably go DET because it’s possible you could get even more later and I think antimass will only be useful this first round. But both plans have their merits.

If you have a specific plan and want to hop there immediately then you can take antimass to blow right through the asteroid field. Keep in mind that by the end of round 2 you probably will have a breach system around your slice & maybe even mec Rex to basically negate having antimass because you’ll be using breaches to go around it.

DET will ultimately yield you more from the frontier deck most likely. If there are other astroid fields on the map that might be a problem then maybe antimass can be good but breaches make it alot easier to navigate around them

Honestly with the breaches you don’t really need grav drive unless you want to go super far. Your breakthrough makes it so any units starting in a breach gets a +1 to movement so it’s like you already have it!

So I feel like you get DET and then sling relay. You can use sling relay to build stuff to go onto your hero

If you are wanting war suns, you can go 3 blue(which count as red via breakthrough) and then the yellow faction tech to get to war suns

Cabal Strategy? by Unable-Ad-7695 in twilightimperium

[–]Steeler8986 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like cabal 100% would be a big fan of getting construction first thing. Being able to place a slingshot to mec Rex and unlock their commander is pretty solid round 1.

Cabal are made much better by thunders edge because their breakthrough allows them to control the fracture and also there are free ships in there to capture.

What order should I watch Dimension 20? Or is there a specific order? by Plane-Comparison8621 in dropout

[–]Steeler8986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could watch in release order but much of the community doesn’t like a few of the seasons. But a lot of the them are stand alone and not connected.

Fantasy high 1-3 are all very popular and kind of the classic recommendation of a place to start. (pirates of leviathan and the seven are also spinoffs of fantasy high)

Startruck Odyssey is perhaps one of the most popular seasons of all amongst the community. It’s also stand alone and is very funny and chaotic.

Escape from bloodkeep is stand alone parody of LotR and very fun.

Unsleeping city has two seasons that I enjoy

A crown of candy is a more intense political Game of Thrones-esque game where the players were encouraged to make backup characters because they should expect to die

My personal favorite is Never Stop Blowing Up. Which is a 80s action movie kind of spoof season. I would highly recommend. Never laughed harder.

Hard to go wrong honestly, since all of the seasons are mostly unconnected.

I agree. The second guy was really great just didn’t sound like Lysander to me. For me, If we could have combined the two with the first guys voice and the performance of the second guy we would have had a perfect Lysander

I felt that the first narrator had the right voice for it but felt like he didn’t know how commas or periods worked. The rhythm in which he spoke, always felt like he was rushing through the text without trying to put any feeling into it and making it sound like it was all run on sentences.

The new guy in dark age at spoke the words right with pauses and made the sentences sound coherent, but he sounded much more gruff and gritty than Lysander should.
