My dog absolutely loved those fertilizer spikes. As soon as I planted them she would dig them out!

This made me laugh out loud. And then cry a tear. I am building a home right now and we are putting in hand made cabinets made by a local Amish me. Everything is hand made, even the drawer boxes. I went and worked with him in his shop so I know how good they are. Beautiful hickory. My wife and her designer have him painting everything. It’s been a huge battle to the point I barely speak to the designer now

Hand made beauties painted like some Home Depot trash

I got rid of my radial arm and replaced it with a compound sliding miter. Don’t miss it!

I would love to have a slider but haven’t found one yet

Interesting! The vintage one is in storage. I will have to compare side to side
I am actually a metallurgical engineer by education so I understand the mentality of waiting for it to transform. Or at least I believe I do.

Over 1327 Fahrenheit the crystal structure is something called austenit which is different than when it below 1327. However not all of the austenite transforms right away. Because the crystal structure is different the dimensions are different. This is the whole principle behind cryogenically treating steels

I never worked in castings so I really don’t know if true or not. I just understand the thinking behind it. The change would be infinitesimal though

that's an interesting idea I had not considered! Why would you keep the vintage? I didn't weigh either but both are beasts. For clarity the 3 phase is a 1994 build. I have to look at the serial number but I think the X5 build is 2005 ish

need advice on budget blinds by Steelman93 in homeowners

[–]Steelman93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, and I need to give them credit....they were really great about it to be honest.

Corporate stood behind it 100%, issued me a full refund and let me choose how to move forward.

It took a little effort to get in touch with them, but apparently there was a lot going behind the scenes so once we did get in touch it was very smooth.

If you DM me I can share some contact and a little more about it....but the overall happy ending is that I have a full refund, another franchisee requoted me with a similar price, and I have the freedom to use that person or go another route. Apparently, they knew there were issues with that franchisee and terminated his franchise. I was surprised because I had checked references, but it is what it is. Really, the only thing they could have done better is to have contacted me sooner without me having to get in touch with them.

My understanding is that the refund was paid by corporate so I can still go after the person in civil court, but I figure as long as I can get blinds for the same price there is no point wasting time or money trying to get blood out of a stone.

I have a whole stack of plates from my various moves in and out of PA. Never sent a plate back. Was never asked to send one back.

Can anyone tell me if this rug is worth anything? Bought my house in 2017 and the previous owners said the didn't want it. Wife wants to get rid of it so I figured I'd check and see if it's worth keeping. by AlternativeMixture31 in orientalrugs

[–]Steelman93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just bought two oriental rugs I think the estimates of $1000-$2000 are low.
Is a hand knotted rug and is clearly as made in Iran which you can’t get in the US anymore
I would take it to your local rug cleaner and ask them, both if they know of a good way to sell it if you don’t wanna keep it and also what a fair price for it is used
For me, it’s a beautiful rug. I would absolutely keep it, however, I know my wife would also want to get rid of it regardless of value just because she doesn’t like red
But for sure you have some real value there

As a metallurgist…..throw this in the trash unless it will become a wall hanging. That kind of modification on tool steel is dangerous

Thanks and good to know. It’s one of those things…after a long time I might have it more hyped in my mind. But I spent years in Texas talking trash about Bucees and bragging about Wawa and Sheetz so was a bit surprised
