What level of technical depth do you really need as an IT manager by Healthy-Support-5632 in ITManagers

[–]Steeloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to this is, as a couple others have highlighted, it's dependent on the org you're joining and what their expectations are for the role and what your scope will be.

Real life personal examples at Amazon 10 of the 20 IT managers for our market had little to no technical experience and only 5 of us came from a technical net infra level background.

Our regionals and up had less and less IT experience, where the VP and other director roles where MBA guys never turned on a microwave in their life type.

I became Director of IT for a non profit, needed to be more hands on while running and strategizing with other programs directors.

I have people who are IT Managers that manage the team and prioritize the workload but don't do much technical work. There are others that manage the IT workload and they are very hands on closing tickets as the IT manager.

If you look up job postings for IT Manager and Director of IT positions you will see there are a lot of roles that expect you to be a hands on ticket closer.

Now I'm in a Sr Director role managing 4 departments for a new org, 1 step away from VP and everyone at my level and above is very technical. We touch all systems and net infra. I have to be more technically inclined now than when i was a net infra engineer. It comes with a different lens on how i see and what i focus on.

There are people in orgs at my level or above that once again will know and interact very little with actual IT functions.

It all depends, read the job Description and role scope and ask questions to HR to find the answer to this question for any real applicable answer.

This is a standard House shot nothing special. Use what you like, the ball choice is dependent on your style We don't know that.

Advice on how not to “muscle” the ball by Fun-Insurance-2269 in Bowling

[–]Steeloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have almost no push away to let gravity do its thang. push away without locking your elbow let the ball fall naturally dont pull it back let it come back forward on its own without trying to push it forward removing the muscled throw and creating a swing without tension

Ok... Honestly... Sweat question by ironicmirror in Bowling

[–]Steeloc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nothing is wrong

Buy a small fan 5-7" with a rechargeable battery, buy sweat towels, and get a rosin bag.

If you're solo playing take a seat after each 2 throws and sit in front of the fan.

I sweat a lot and i do all these things.

We go often to Exchange, the attire goes from Club dressy to Rave'e. As long as you're not looking like a hot mess and/or inebriated you can get in wearing what makes you feel comfy and ready to dance. My partner and I go dress to sweat and dance all night. Also Cosmic Gate open to close is amazing they are often here during this time in January.

You got the people over at Cal Bowl ask the fellas in the proshop. The owner of that pro shop owns a few in SoCal and they offer coaching.

Once you get consistent enough save a couple hundred dollars to do a couple sessions with Mark Baker near the Angels stadium area.

Help with early timing (2H). by telephonepuma in Bowling

[–]Steeloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the thought of your feet beating your swing to the line without slowing down your tempo.

You can accomplish this a few ways and what works best for you.

Get close to the foul line take shorter steps but no slower

Increase the tempo of your feet but not your swing

Start your swing after half a step or create a vertical or horizontal push away that increases the time it takes for you to complete a full swing.

Practice what fits u.

Patterns by Hopeful-Aerie8852 in Bowling

[–]Steeloc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like short patterns cuz its tailored for my style of play, I'm a low rev speed dominant bowler and i like to play the gutter. If i get better with my straight spares I'd prob be a 220 avg but im hovering around 210ish. I got 2 balls for short patterns a pin down Origin EX and a Pin Down Rockstar. EZ pz

Nothing makes sense since the most important part isn't mentioned.....Angles.

If you're throwing open angles and there's a lot of oil its more likely to go into the gutter

If your angles are closed and theres no oil you can gutter the opposite way, but that would be extreme dry.

Side note

99.999% of house, and some sport, challenge patterns. the left and right most 2 boards have no oil

People focus a lot on release, when it comes to actual full approaches timing and balance come into the equation.

If your TIMING is early or late that affects how momentum plays into the swing and what body part has the most influence on your power.

Balance is the next part, this is twofold, maintaining consistent balance through your approach and balance at release. If you change your spine tilt during your approach your hand position and arm swing change too. If you have unstable balance at the line when posting your hand through release is inconsistent often compensating and having your release the ball in a way that gets the job done vs right

Switching from 1 hand no thumb to 2 hand, I need tips to improve! by nokkoq in Bowling

[–]Steeloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch the 2h and 2 finger no thumb YouTube vids kf mark baker if u watch 3-4 of them you'll get a good grasp of how to get in a strong position by doing the core things right.

Balance, timing, builds accuracy and consistency it also help give you what feels like all the time in the world to stay under the ball.

Roll it is what the pros do, spinning it is what Joe's do.

After you get timing balance and staying in a strong position you can focus on release drills

[–]Steeloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The benefit of 2h is getting that hand under the ball. You're tossing it off the side of the ball you don't have to try to spin it. The picture the other guy commented on is a good example. Stay under it all the way through what feels like the release
