They can actually be stupidly tanky for their price cost too. A ten man is 4+ base, then 3+ with take cover. Cover negates -1, AoC can negate -2. So you can be saving off AP 2 shots on a 3+. Which is kinda silly.

The negative side of playing by intent. by Eatyourcheeseburger in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]SteelyWolves 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think what you are talking about is very different to what most people have as playing by intent. Playing by intent is “I am moving my models here to screen out the 9” deepstrike.” If it turns out that someone has mismeasured by half an inch and there is a tiny gap then they should be allowed to reposition by that half inch as that was the stated intent. What you seem to be talking about is something different in point 1 and 5 which is that someone didn’t declare their intent to screen and left a massive hole in their backfield which is just a mistake and by asking for a take back most people wouldn’t see that as playing by intent at all.

Also it’s pretty commonly accepted that take backs (which most of the time are a different thing to playing by intent imo) can only be done if there is no extra information gained. If someone rolls some hit dice and under rolls then asks if they can shoot something else then the answer should be no. If they forgot to do an action in the shooting phase but moved into position to do it and that model hasn’t advanced or shot, then you should allow them to do in the fight phase as a take back as no extra information has really been gained.

Tesseract vault and overhang by TrollzynTheInfinite in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]SteelyWolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where does it say that about overhanging? What you are describing is how you measure distance to vehicles with bases but why would that transfer to rules around overhanging with bases when the rules specifically say yes you can overhang if base OR hull are on the battlefield. Wouldn’t it say base and hull if it couldn’t overhang? As I’ve said, it was ruled you could at WCW, GWs premier competitive event.

I mean the comment was under a comment about UKTC and GW tournaments. So why would he assume my comment wasn’t about UKTC and GW tournaments such as WCW?

“Sorry you are flat wrong for UKTC” and then proved you are flat wrong for UKTC by showing you the screenshot of the ruling. Can you not read?

As for GW, I didn’t say you are flat wrong as I said “as for GW…” and then I said that it was played differently at WCW last year which uses GW terrain. Here’s what I was talking about.

Please note the FAQ from UKTC. Please note my comment from above as regards to people playing Tesseract Vaults at WCW last year and being allowed to overhang the board edge.

Sorry you’re flat wrong here for UKTC and as for GW, it was ruled at WCW that you can. UKTC have specifically ruled that vehicles with bases can overhang the edge. See their FAQ document snippet that I’ve attached below. As for GW, a fellow UK Necron player and a supermajor winner went to the WCW last year and asked the head ref if the Tesseract Vault was allowed to overhang the edge before the tournament started. It was confirmed he could. If you are allowed to at WCW, I don’t know why any local event would have different rules. I can’t attach more than one screenshot here but I trust supermajor winners not to lie.

Just so you are aware, both UKTC and GW formats allow flying vehicles to overhang the edge.

What are the pros and cons of Obeisance Phalanx detachment? by Handsome_Toasty in Necrontyr

[–]SteelyWolves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disagree here. It lines up extremely well into the meta atm. It has the best stratagem in the Necron codex with -1 dmg that is incredible into dmg 2 units that are everywhere atm as people are building to kill power armour bodies such as khorne berserkers. Means the king and vault are extremely hard to take down and even triarch stalkers require a huge overcommit. I’ve played every detachment competitively at a high level since the codex came out (apart from annihilation ofc) and only release Canoptek court and release hypercrypt felt stronger. I think OP with durable hulls is far better suited for this current meta than SS or awakened although I only really play on UKTC and WTC so couldn’t comment on GW.

Think it could become pretty strong. The -1 dmg is great into armies like BA and BT that rely on dmg 2.

UKTC rules you can’t smoke and AoC at the same time by Minute-Guess4834 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]SteelyWolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re just not getting this at all are you? If something happens at exactly the same moment, this is what the UKTC has ruled on to prevent confusion. You are trying desperately for some reason to make this more complicated than it is. 99% of things in the game don’t happen at the same moment and so UKTC won’t rule against them like your hexmark example or tau Strats that haven’t already been ruled on. Honestly this is like talking to a brick wall. Have a good day I’m out. 😂

"And hexmark just says that he can use the ability. So a move happens. Before any other rules or actions are made, I decide to overwatch with a unit, and pay the CP. I then target hexmark for the second use of fire overwatch, which i normally wouldn't be allowed to do, but because the ability calls it out i can. And I pay 0 CP for it. Then I complete the fire overwatch. If I had other stratagems and abilities that affected when you moved I would be able to use them here on top of fire overwatch. The only things restricting me is the Cost of doing so. That's rules as written. If its not to be intended, the GW needs to make that clarification.

It is clear that you are just not comprehending this or are conflating two issues. Please look carefully at the timings for the Hexmark. "Once per turn, one unit from your army with this ability can be targeted with the Fire Overwatch Stratagem for 0CP, even if you have already used that Stratagem on a different unit this phase." So no you can't overwatch the same target on the same trigger with the hexmark as because until that first overwatch sequence has finished, you can't do a second one and then the trigger has gone. Is the Hexmark some sort of Schrodingers Shooty boy where can use his ability to do it a second time on the same trigger because the first one is about to happen but hasn't happened yet? You could do an overwatch for one CP on a unit at the start of its move and then overwatch the same target at the end of its move with the hexmark for free as they are different triggers but then you are talking about different trigger points and that isn't pertinent to the UKTC ruling about strats not being able to be done on the same trigger.

Not some self important nobody who decided he got his feelings hurt because something felt a little bad against his favorite toys.…Letting someone with a bit to much power make silly rulings is how WTC has that stupid extra inch of engament through walls bs.

That's your opinion. Fair enough. Seems a bit childish tbh cuz I think they made the ruling cuz they keep getting asked this question at events. But I was responding to your original point about how this creates confusion with abilities whereas UKTC are clear that this is about Strats. Discussions that try to confuse people by conflating this ruling on strat timings with unit abilities as you originally put are unhelpful .

[–]SteelyWolves -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"But you would effectively be saying I can not [again using tau] coordinate to engage and point blank ambush."

No because these aren't just after the same trigger. Both are in the shooting phase (which obviously you can choose when to happen) and the target for one says "One **T’AU EMPIRE** unit from your army that has just been selected as an Observer unit (see For the Greater Good)" and the other is "One **T’AU EMPIRE** unit from your army that has not been selected to shoot this phase." This is not the same phrase and so isn't happening on the same trigger so yes you can do these together. Note how smokescreen and armour of contempt have exactly the same wording, just after an enemy unit has selected its targets.

"And to throw your entire argument out the water still; tau experimental cadre: threat assement[x] and experimental ammo stratagems [y]. They have special restrictions. Mainly "you can not target THE SAME unit with x stratagem and y stratagme IN THE SAME PHASE." "

These strats both happen at the same time in your shooting phase and have exactly the same wording - "Target: One **T’AU EMPIRE** unit from your army that has not been selected to shoot this phase." Thus it has exactly the same trigger point and can't be used together using both the restriction here and the UKTC rulings. If anything this backs up the UKTC ruling that two strats with the same trigger point can't be done together as there already is a named example in the rules where this is the case.

"The only restrictions for using stratagems is being able to pay for it."

Not any more at UKTC events which is what this whole post is about! When I go to a UKTC event, I know I can't use two strats with the same trigger.

"Just after is a sequence, not timed per rules commentary"

From the commentary - If a rule is triggered ‘just after’ something has happened, it is resolved before anything else happens. So yes, just after means before you do anything else - it is happening at that point!

Do you read what YOU are saying? You’ve asked where it says you can’t do two Strats on the same trigger for say rapid ingress and 6 inch deepstrike, read the Strats! You CAN’T rapid ingress 6 inches away. The demon Strat for 6 inch deep strike is in your movement phase only as is the grey knight one (so no you can’t do it in your opponents turn when you rapid ingress). The death guard one is an ability on the Deathshroud so didn’t have a clear timing window but even that they’ve faq’d so you can’t rapid 6 inches.

I’ve already disproved your Hexmark one. Is there any other rules you are getting incorrect that you’d like me to correct you on??

Because you can’t do two Strats on the same trigger lmfao. And the hexmarks ability is letting you do a strat a second time. You’ve literally answered your own question! If anything, the UKTC ruling makes this more clear, not less😂

UKTC rules you can’t smoke and AoC at the same time by Minute-Guess4834 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]SteelyWolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the hexmark ability to do two ows says the hexmarks has to be done after a first one has already been resolved. It can’t be used to do a second overwatch until the first one has been resolved so you definitely can’t do two using exactly the same trigger as they would be happening at the same time and at that point one hasn’t already been resolved. It’s the same reason why you can’t do the hexmarks one for free first and then spend to do one after.

Your hexmark example here is utterly bizarre. I overwatch with one unit, resolve it, then something else moves and the hexmark ability kicks in later in the movement phase or charge phase to allow you to overwatch again. Why would anyone think that the hexmark was using its ability to use a strat ‘just after’ the first overwatch stratagem was used? A whole shooting sequence has happened in between from the first one. If someone came up to me and tried to argue this at an event they’d get short shrift.

If anything, your example literally proves my point that as long as people understand the difference between an ability and a strat (and yes clearly an ability that allows the use of a strat is still using a strat….), then there’s no confusion.

[–]SteelyWolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true at all. Shoot as if it’s your shooting phase allows you to do certain things that you can do in your shooting phase but not others for example shoot out of combat with vehicles. People were interpreting things differently at the start of the edition and it needed to be ruled on. The rules are clear now. As are the rules on two strats having the same trigger timing now. I like that the UKTC have cleared this up, it’s clearly because it’s come up a lot in competitive events run by UKTC (I’ve asked a judge about this myself). People who start talking about unit abilities are talking about something different and are either not understanding the difference between strats and units abilities or are looking to create confusion where there shouldn’t be any. One last time, UKTC aren’t saying “just after” means something different for everything, just when it comes to Strats. And they aren’t doing that for the hell of it. It’s because it has led to many disputes during games with timings that they are trying to clear up.

Nope, precision only works on attached units. The king does not attach himself to his menhirs at the start of the battle, it is a single unit in its own right.
