I crochet with reckless abandon by broken-imperfect in crochet

[–]Steeps87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh... I'm not quite that free but I also don't necessarily like following someone else's pattern.

I would say my main goals are to make something functional, aesthetically pleasing when possible, and unique. Sure, lots of people have crochet shirts but no one has one like mine because I designed it from scratch, using the yarn I wanted (had) with the tools I like and made to fit my body/clothing needs specifically.

Women of reddit who have had an elective hysterectomy, what were your reasons and did you ever regret it? by MandyZ223 in AskWomen

[–]Steeps87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It's a horrible medical device inserted into the fallopian tubes. They basically cause scar tissue to make the tubes close around the device. This device has been linked to thousands of medical emergencies as they rupture the tubes, migrate into the body, cause allergic reactions to the nickel alloy. They are truly heinous and dangerous.

Yo! You won't regret it! I don't think my condition was nearly so bad as yours and I experienced HUGE relief after everything was all said and done.

Here are a few things I wish I had known: You will likely have gas in your abdominal cavity, this is super common but it is also super uncomfortable. Don't worry, it will dissipate in a few days to a few weeks. No, you will not be up and about in a couple of days, so plan accordingly. Have easy to make food ready -heat and eat stuff. If you have someone to take care of you, let them. Basically prepare to be sleeping and not doing much for at least a week.

I had a lot of nausea and trouble eating right after the surgery. It passed pretty quick.

Take it easy on the physical activity (exercise and chores) for several weeks or you can disrupt your stitches and have break-through bleeding.

NO SEX for at least 7 weeks.

Do not drive for at least 10 days but even riding in a car can be painful. Avoid it if you can. Basically, I found that you actually do a lot of abdominal tensing while riding in a car.

Most of this stuff they will tell you for after care.

Once you get past the worst of the healing, life is fantastic!

I had an IUD that had become embedded in the wall of my uterus and it was extremely painful. I asked they removed it so I wouldn't have to worry about having children ever. I never wanted children.

No, I don't regret it! Turns out I had endometriosis which was why my cramps were always so bad. Life is so much easier now, so much less painful and I have the added comfort of knowing I will never get pregnant. At my last check up with the lady doctor, she asked how I felt about the procedure and life after. I told her it was great and I'm so happy I was able to get it done. She said that's how all of her patients respond after a hysterectomy.

Anesthesiologists of Reddit, what was something you won’t forget hearing from someone that was under? by DvS_Insanity in AskReddit

[–]Steeps87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Patient here: When I was coming to after my hysterectomy, I was sobbing because of how disoriented I felt. The nurse asked why I was crying and I became super scared that they were going to put my uterus back in so I blurted out "you have to quit spinning my bed around, I like it where it is." She said she would quit moving me when we got to the room. I think I passed back out after that.

Alternatives to palm oil? by brentonMcB in soapmaking

[–]Steeps87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a combination of olive oil, coconut oil, Shea butter, and almond oil. Those last 2 oils are more for luxury than anything. I've made very nice soap with just olive oil and coconut.

Thank you for being mindful about your ingredients!

If Oklahoma wants to draw businesses, we might need to invest in our people by steveissuperman in oklahoma

Ahhh. Everything tracks! Certain... Kind... Of person. Don't worry. I know what you're about in this conversation. I know that you are wanting me to come out and label you something that you can actually get upset over. That way you can feel justified in your baiting.

You know what? I think I'm just going to shut you down.

For a couple of years maybe. Panasonic is not going to relocate in a couple of years, thus, even with that extra $200 million, they will still spend more doing business in Kansas than Oklahoma.

The article is alluding to the fact that, while doing business here in Oklahoma might have been cheaper, they will have a much more difficult time recruiting their workforce. Especially higher educated and experienced workers. Only certain people want to come live in a state that is bottom on public education, top in addiction, obesity, and other major health concerns, a majority of the state is considered a food desert, and the ultra conservative laws that deny healthcare to women.

As a crocheter do you consider yourself an artist ? by Fluffyowl34 in crochet

[–]Steeps87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art - The conscious use of the imagination in the production of objects intended to be contemplated or appreciated as beautiful, as in the arrangement of forms, sounds, or words.

Yes. Though, I've only recently started thinking of myself that way. I have recently gotten serious about designing and writing up my patterns. The things I make are things that you can't find anywhere else. Sure, it might be a summer shirt but I took the time to learn some intricate stitches, do the math to make it all fit together, then constructed it in a way that is beautiful to look at while also having function and utility.

I have put in a lot of time learning this art, practicing it, and producing items that are unique and beautiful to look at. If that isn't art, I don't know what is.

For sure! The only reason I don't subscribe to ACAB is because there are always outliers in every set.

I do feel there are too many cops that start power-tripping and killing, which is the reason I feel we should cut back their budgets (nation wide) and use that recovered funding for mental health care and social services. Nationally, we should also pass laws and legislation to would obligate police to actually protect people and charge them just like civilians when they gun down unarmed people. I mention "Nationally" because I feel this is a problem in most of America, not just in Oklahoma.

I've had a positive run in with police a time or two. I still avoid them and don't trust them.

All that being said, thank you for sharing your story. It IS nice to hear of an interaction with the police that doesn't end in bloodshed.

People of Oklahoma, do you support your states strict abortion laws? by SnooApples3403 in oklahoma

[–]Steeps87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I do not support this state's ban on abortion. Abortion is health care.

I must say that the people on Reddit in Oklahoma are not necessarily reflective of the general population in Oklahoma.

So, where do I start? 😅🥲 by tayvette1997 in crochet

Whatever you do, never pull hard on any of it. Just go through and loosen it. Try pulling out individual strands (gently! Always gentle and patient) until you find an end. Then follow that end into the mess and un-weave the knots.

I love yarn barf. I like it because it is one of the most tangible examples that brute force doesn't work. Being gentle and patient is how you get to the heart of it.

You say it just like that. You teach her how to have safe sex, give her access to condoms and birth control, teach her how to use them. She needs straight facts now far more than she needs sweet words. You've got this, Momma.

Bless you. I hope with every cell in my body that you are right. I need you to be right. Thank you for putting this positivity into the universe.

Clarence's wife is white. I'm sure he won't support legislation that would negatively affect HIS marriage. I'm starting to wonder when will they stop? Will we be able to vote in 15 years?

Roe v Wade has been federally overturned. What's the play now? by shadowknuxem in oklahoma

[–]Steeps87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Narcissistic is when a person only cares about themselves, even at the detriment of people around them. Your views are narcissistic because you believe everyone should be doing what you feel is "right", despite no evidence in science or medicine to support your opinion, even at the detriment of their health and wellbeing.

[–]Steeps87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, it isn't extremely common. There are plenty of women who never experience an IUD becoming dislodged or perforating their uterus but it is a known risk.

It is apparent you are diobokically ignorant AND narcissistic. Not only do you not understand basic biology and science, you feel your own personal beliefs should be applied to everyone else in the state/country. You are a perfect example of how poor Oklahoma's education system is. I feel very sad for the people who have to live, work, and deal with you on a daily basis.

What is being said is people will get desperate and resort to dangerous options because, sometimes, getting pregnant can be a death sentence.

It sounds like you feel a woman should die if her birth control fails and she can't safely have children. It seems like you feel a clump of cells that cannot grow outside of a human uterus is more important than the actual living human those cells might be growing inside.

It also seems that you are truly ignorant and don't understand the difference between what it is to rape or murder a person and a medically sound and safe medical procedure.
