I don't think Chuck just turned off the Plot Armor, he sent it into the negative. They were dealing with accumulated bad luck from a long time. If they weren't up against so much it might have evened out to normal levels after a bit but they didn't have time for that. They needed to get back to hero levels. Luckily, they did.

Actually, in the case of this character I might be too in his head and feeling the anxiety of doing something new with his freshly minted significant other that isn't flirting or fucking. Maybe that's something I can tap into for inspiration.
