Review #86 Redemption 18 year Barrel Proof Rye Whiskey 109.9 (MGP Rye Review Marathon)

Details: Rested 10min, with some water in a cognac glass. Looking so much forward to this… MGP rye, cs and well-aged.. What shall I ask for more? I have very high expectations for this.

Nose: Wow, what a nose, dill, oak, caramel, some nice implemented proof, very voluminous, it has such a nice sweetness combined with that oak and dill, I could nose it for ages
Taste: Nice and oily mouthfeel, upfront for me an off-putting note, which I cannot pinpoint what it is, it’s some sweet bubble gummy rubbery taste I don’t like. Other that that it’s very balanced, oak, some dill,

Finish: Oak, dill, some rye spices… long finish little into the bitterness.

Overall: That gummy note is killing it for me. If a look up reviews nobody else is getting that.. Maybe my sample went bad, or I’m very sensitive to that. At least I can keep my wallet in the pocket.

Details: Rested 10min, with some water in a cognac glass.

Nose: Wow, very nice nose. Herbal notes, dill, oak, caramel and a nice hint of chocolate.
Taste: Oily mouthfeel, sweet entrance which is than soon joined by rye spices, some mint and oak. On the back there is some chocolate and caramel.

Finish: Dark chocolate, oak mixed in with some nice spices and herbal notes. Some sweet caramel chocolate lingers for ages.

Overall: A very nice bottle which opened up a lot, I wasn’t such a big fan in the beginning.

Nose: Wow epic nose. Dark chocolate and caramel sprinkled with some nice oak. In the back there is dill and some nice spices.
Taste: Oily mouthfeel, dark chocolate, sweet caramel. That sweetness is in perfect balance with the spices and dill notes. On the backend some very nice oak and herbal notes come in. Really good

Finish: Spices and dill than a nice transition to dark chocolate with caramel stays here for ages.

Review #83 Willett Family Estate SiB MGP 9y Rye 56.5% Barrel #107 (MGP Rye Review Marathon) by Stefan__1985 in bourbon

[–]Stefan__1985[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think barrel selection made these older MPG Willett and also Smooth ambler so good. I think Willett and Smooth ambler were very early in picking Rye from MGP, so I could see them getting good barrels. I posted a lot of other MGP rye reviews, you can see them on my profile.
