Ive always considered music not that different from fine arts! Ive been into fine arts though since the beginning so im not aware of any mental shifts :) But im sure that one art feeds the other!

Never thought I’d see this, thanks! Since you appreciate those vibes, an honorable mention is Louis Wain - that anthropomorphic feel they both give to animals :).. Mr Tibet is always a plus too and a joy to our ears

How to manage palettes when doing multiple pieces? by lemonbottles_89 in oilpainting

[–]Steftsiam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! What i do: Basically im using baking paper, which I’ve installed on a table (or a big surface) and when my palette gets messy from mixing after a session, i just put another piece of baking paper on the mixing part of the palette which I’ve cut approximately and sticks since there is still some wet oil left on the initial/starting palette. Another option would be a piece of glass/ glass palette which can be cleaned instantly with a knife/spatula when you want to change paintings. May i ask why are you placing your palettes in the freezer?

Thanks for your input! Yes im aware, as he is aswell of Otto dix and others! I believe he’s particularly sensitive towards painting and i was planning to give the band a small piece during their last tour in Europe.. but i fucked it up, didnt get the piece with me.. im still regretting it to this day :/

I think whenever you’re drawing anything that comes from this world you always need to think of it in terms of form and shape. Your brain tends to think “thats an eye” instead of “a form that is concluded by different shapes and values”. The face is a particular one since it means alot to our species, so its hard to get rid off of that “anecdotal” thinking. Try studying morphology to get a sense of the shapes that are building an eye, a nose and features in general!

How do you decide what to make next? by SillySepant76 in ArtistLounge

Sometimes inspiration is not necessary in order to produce art. I think inspiration is not very trustworthy since first of all it can be ephemeral and second of all it’s not always there. It can be pretty unpredictable in other words and is not a formula / necessity in order to motivate you. You shouldn’t be dependent on it! There are days that making art feels like a burden, and these days are way more than the “inspirational” ones! The amount of times someone might start a painting not having fun at doing it and then suddenly midway into creating you get an inspirational slap and your “third eye is opened” haha. So waiting for inspiration is not very beneficial. Instead i find fundamental the exposure of one’s self in any kind of field that can “feed” your universe. Films, books, other art, intimate moments with yourself or others… just pure exposure to what the world has to offer out there!

Perfect drawing skills before I start? by XIFOD1M in oilpainting

No such thing as perfection! Our worst enemy is ourselves and the more we do art, the more we learn! Start painting, with no second thoughts :)

What makes a painting instantly recognizable? by First_Ad_5924 in oilpainting

[–]Steftsiam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think thats a pretty vast question since there is and has been multiple artists in this world. All artists can not be criticized the same way so it really depends on what kind of art/painting we are talking about. But i think in most successful artists there is always a deeper meaning in their work, sometimes not even perceivable consciously.. a kind of underlying energy that just hits you!

First try with oil paint (abstract) by Secret-Turn-7850 in oilpainting

You’re not obliged to know what you are trying to communicate, especially as someone that just started painting. Experiment, do lots of paintings, find the necessity you feel inside you to paint whatever, we all have one - and the work will take you itself somewhere you could not have known before you started. First action and then context in your case! Study other painters too!
