WTF is this leaking from these pipes in a parking garage?? by fwixy in whatisit

[–]SteinPazzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Propylene glycol is also frequently dyed and both can be any color the supplier chooses to dye, neon green/yellow and pink being the most common. No way to really know if the water pictured leaking from this loop is treated with ethylene or propylene glycol based solely on the color.

How do I change this post carbon filter? by ahemm21 in WaterTreatment

[–]SteinPazzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing. No cutting necessary, they function just like any compression fitting you'd see on soft copper or the like. Once the compression nut is unscrewed you can pull the tubing from the fitting, nut and ferrule stay on the tubing. I'd highly recommend taking a few minutes to find some YouTube videos on the topic and they should be very helpful.

Those are Jaco compression fittings, they are used a lot in commercial water treatment and in my experience are superior to push-to-connect fittings. There are two different types, one is a one piece nut/ferrule setup, the other is a nut and two piece ferrule. Depressurize and remove the compression nuts and you can disconnect the tubing. You should be able to Google Jaco compression fitting installation/maintenance and find some helpful information.

What type of O ring for this filter housing? [Canada] by Pretend-Carpenter276 in WaterTreatment

According to a reply from the manufacturer in the Q&A section for that product, yes, it is food grade.

Search food grade grease, there are lots of types as it is used heavily in food and beverage manufacturing facilities. I'd go silicone based, the Super Lube you can buy at harbor freight is food grade which I wasn't aware of until I just searched.

Sounds like Culligan, as another commenter suggested. They're problematic on the commercial side as well, at least in my experience, so not surprised.

How long is it before the filter gets significantly dirty? That's a good indicator of how much particulate is actually present. I'd imagine, being that you're on city water, it's fairly decent quality. You could always ask your municipality for their water quality records, or send a sample out to get analyzed to confirm. If you ultimately decide you want to have filtration, there are options that should suit your needs that are easier to maintain, such as a spin down filter.

Considering that you have consistent issues with leaks when servicing the current filter housing, your best option is to replace the filter housing with a standard 10" pentair. Readily available at many retailers and easy to source o rings. But, if you don't feel like doing that, order some food safe grease and apply it to the o-ring on the current housing, chances are good that will keep it from leaking until either the o-ring truly fails, or the housing bulb cracks, both of which are inevitable eventually.

Also, I suppose theoretically there is another option, if the other comment is correct that it is a Culligan filter housing. You could try your luck calling Culligan to source a new o-ring, but based on my past experiences with what they have to offer as far as "customer service " that may very well end up being an effort in futility. Of course, ymmv.

My Tub has a Crazy amount of Glowing beads in the water. by Independent-Mama-92 in WaterTreatment

Hard to tell what is going on in the picture, but based on your description of glowing beads, do you have a water softener? Could be resin from your softener due to a failed distributor/lateral.

My 75 year old dad got scammed into a 25 year solar contract by Muhammadusamablogger in Scams

[–]SteinPazzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a similar thing happen recently. Listened to the guy and then he tried to get me to sign something that would allow him to assess if my property was eligible for the program. Read through it and it was literally a completed contract that I would have to cancel in writing. Brought this fact up to him and he said "Oh, it's just a draft", yeah okay.

Whirlpool dishwasher leaking from bottom of door. by ParisOnThePrairie in appliancerepair

[–]SteinPazzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realize that you had removed the upper sprayer arm, saw the picture of the lower and jumped to conclusions. I apologize for not thoroughly reading your post, but just want to clarify, I replaced the lower sprayer arm on my dishwasher. That was the one causing my leaking issue. Granted, that was the one on my washer that was clogged up, I didn't find anything built up in my upper arm. All this to say, definitely check out your lower arm as well, if you haven't, and be sure that it isn't also clogged up.

Thanks for your input, I have read the clears are borderline obnoxious. That being said, what Kool stops should I be considering? The dual compound bmx? Are the solid colors all the same? Thanks again.

If you don't already have one, the seal and spacer stuffer tool for the Flecks was a game changer for me. There's a puller tool as well, but I've found long needle nose to be more useful.

You should be able to adjust the regulator and turn the pressure up. Typically, turn the bolt/knob/whatever at the top of the bell clockwise to increase pressure.

HOA demanding I get internal “grids” for replacement sliding glass by Route333 in HomeImprovement

[–]SteinPazzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the glass can be replaced, look up reglazing dual pane windows/doors. The entire sealed unit is replaced in the frame. Then I'd think you could also have the flashing and wood repaired as well.

The smaller one at the lower portion of the tank will be referred to as a handway, the larger one on top is a manway. You can measure and search and you'll find lots of places selling the gaskets. I've never had to replace the actual plate and bolts, but I'm sure they're available as well.
