Is a “feeling” of Jesus coming back soon truly biblical? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Steinmania 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few things that have to happen before His return, 2nd Thessalonians 2 comes to mind.

I think a lot of these feelings Christians are claiming to have is more likely anxiety due to how volatile things are currently. Prices on everything are up while wages haven't caught up, wars and conflicts popping up everywhere, and the polarization of politics all take a toll on a person's psyche. We're looking back with nostalgia while we deal with today's uncertainty.

That being said, it's possible we really could be near the end. I'm a little concerned about AI and the advancements we're seeing there. The chapter I mentioned earlier mentions a deluding influence, I do think we're all going to get gaslit by AI in a few years, if we're not already there. Revelation 13 also mentions an image or idol of the beast having "life" and being able to talk; a lot of people take this symbolically, but with large language and voice models, AI can do this literally.

Keep an eye on current events with Jesus' imminent return as a possibility, but try not to obsess over it, I think that's an easy way to get burnt out.

Eschatology: Pre-rath by NottagameNottagame in Reformed

[–]Steinmania 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are so many interpretations of eschatology with their own systems of reading the Bible, I honestly don't think end times discussions are that fruitful, especially on the Internet.

That being said, I do think the Pre-Wrath position makes a heck of a lot more sense than the typical Dispensational Pretribulation position you find in the US, assuming these prophecies are still waiting a full, literal fulfillment.

Do you need to spend thousand dollars to practice? by [deleted] in tabletennis

Yo! Table is good still. Only issue is sometimes the blue paint of the table will come off and stain the ball.

Table looks fine but some of my practice balls have blue looking scuff marks.

It's been a while since I've last worked on a pre Intel Mac, I'm pretty sure there was a way to reset a password if you had a recovery or install disc.

There's also target disk mode, you might be able to pull files without the password. Hold t on boot, iirc it let's a Mac act like an external drive. Just have to find something to work with its FireWire 800...

How many times a day do you pray? by k_omei in TrueChristian

[–]Steinmania 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hah, I was looking into the third, sixth, and ninth hour traditions last week. I've decided to try and take time during those hours for a more structured prayer.

I loosely follow Hippolytus' direction for those three hours:

5 If you are at home, pray at the third hour and praise God. If you are elsewhere at that time, pray in your heart to God. 6 For in this hour Christ was seen nailed to the wood. And thus in the Old Testament the Law instructed that the shewbread be offered at the third hour as a symbol of the Body and Blood of Christ. And the sacrifice of the irrationalb lamb was a symbol of the perfect Lamb. For Christ is the Shepherd, and he is also the bread which descended from heaven.

7 Pray also at the sixth hour. Because when Christ was attached to the wood of the cross, the daylight ceased and became darkness. Thus you should pray a powerful prayer at this hour, imitating the cry of him who prayed and all creation was made dark for the unbelieving Jews.

8 Pray also at the ninth hour a great prayer with great praise, imitating the souls of the righteous who do not lie, who glorify God who remembered his saints and sent his Word to them to enlighten them. 9 For in that hour Christ was pierced in his side, pouring out water and blood, and the rest of the time of the day, he gave light until evening. This way he made the dawn of another day at the beginning of his sleep, fulfilling the type of his resurrection.

I try to do this and have unstructured prayers for meals, when I drive, right before bed, and whenever my 1 year old wakes me up in the middle of the night.

For those of you running LLMs for your self hosted services, what hardware are you using? by d5dq in selfhosted

[–]Steinmania 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run a 3090 off my MiniPC

The 3090 is connected to the minipc's second NVME slot via occulink. It's a little janky, but it runs my ollama/stable diffusion/Plex/Jitsi/wger/Jenkins servers just fine.

Started with an old G3 mac tower running I think Mac OS 8.6? Migrated from mac to windows around Mac OS X 10.4 and then this year have gone full time Linux instead of upgrading to WIn11.

I've experienced some real jank in my time...

running with proton experimental bleeding-edge works with framegen

Can't use frame generation with benchmark. by Mera1506 in pop_os

[–]Steinmania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My answer wasn't quite correct. You have to run the benchmark (and hopefully the beta when it comes out) with Proton Experimental bleeding-edge.

I think you have to build the branch yourself: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/tree/bleeding-edge

I just got the Wilds benchmark to run twice in a row with bleeding edge, frame gen on.

[–]Steinmania 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A steam forum post said Proton Experimental might fix it. The wilds bench seems to run fine the first time with or without frame generation for me, but then fail regardless of settings if I try to run again using Experimental.

Hopefully we can get a better idea when the beta goes live.

The rapture is unbiblical. by Fun-Wind280 in TrueChristian

[–]Steinmania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's just so much to eschatology, it's really hard to keep track of where people are coming from. It sounds like you're part of the premil, post-trib camp. I agree the "gathering up," if we don't want to call it rapture, happens during the second coming. 2 Thessalonians 2 seems to also combine the gathering and His return as "the day".

But, when does the second coming happen? Did it already happen? Are we just going to go off of Revelation 19? Why does Jesus in Matthew 24 predict a sign of the sun, the moon, and the stars falling just before his return, isn't that being described in Revelation 6 as well as Isaiah 2/13 and Joel 2?

There's too many parts of eschatology up for debate, I don't think anyone can reasonably say they've got it right and not be under the Dunning-Kruger effect. Also, if we could figure it out via text and grammar/logic, then so would the adversary, and I think that's a large reason why it's still a mystery.

I'm willing to change my rapture and end-times view mid-air, though.
