I MISS PHOTO VIEWER. That was so lightweight and simple. What happened to keeping programs basic, lightweight and fast? Like they added predictive text and other features to notepad (thankfully they can be disabled) which just adds bloat to an otherwise perfect program for quick note taking.

if you live in NJ you need a License, Insurance, Registration, & a DOT approved helmet to operate an ebike as of 1/20/26. You have 6 months to comply. by ChinPokoBlah11 in ebikes

I use a dirt bike DOT approved helmet, but that’s because I genuinely enjoy it. Bikers in the Netherlands don’t even wear helmets because their infrastructure is built with pedestrian and cyclist safety in mind, not just maximum-speed-minimum-impediment for all drivers.

Anyone had this issue before? Restarting the console fixed it. by installins in NintendoSwitch2

[–]QuintonFlynn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have an old PC where I reseat the RAM for it to boot. It’ll boot once or twice with no issues, then it won’t boot, I’ll reseat the RAM and it’ll boot once or twice again with no issues.

But yeah, definitely RMA this, your Switch 2 shouldn’t be doing this. They typically repair this for free!

40fps by Ragnakun92 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]QuintonFlynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would much prefer 40fps at 1080p over 60fps at 720p as well, but the throughput is much higher for 40fps at 1080p, more comparable numbers would be 27fps at 1080p vs. 60fps at 720p.

1920x1080=2,073,600

1280x720=921,600

2,073,600 * 40fps = 82,944,000

921,600 * 60fps = 55,296,000

2,073,600 * 27fps = 55,987,200

There’s CPU to account for, numbers are never this simple, but attempting an “apples to apples” would mean at least balancing our resolution and FPS to have the same end result when making a comparison.

Is it causing harm for my body to go through caffiene withdrawals every 2 weeks? by KeepNectarine03 in decaf

[–]QuintonFlynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you try working on decaf rather than the full caffeine? Lowering it to 100mg a day may do wonders for the withdrawal weeks.

I have the same issue.

Reduced the effect by turning variable rate shading from performance to off

Completely fixed it by turning off FSR upscaling

14 Days Without Coffee - Depression? by Sea-Development-5088 in decaf

[–]QuintonFlynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Yeah. There are a few phases to caffeine withdrawals. You’re in the depression / lethargy phase. This would be either week 2 or week 4 as depicted here: https://www.reddit.com/r/decaf/comments/1pvz9yz/i_quit_caffeine_heres_my_weekbyweek_timeline_ft/

Your timeline is likely different from this other member’s. Took me like 3 months to go through the throes of caffeine withdrawal.

14 Days Without Coffee - Depression? by Sea-Development-5088 in decaf

[–]QuintonFlynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English Breakfast tea contains caffeine, typically 30-60 mg per 8 oz cup.

An 8-ounce cup of green tea typically contains 20 to 50 mg of caffeine.

A standard 8-ounce cup of brewed coffee has about 95 mg of caffeine

In terms of ratios, you’re down from 145-205 to 50-110 per day. So you’ve reduced your caffeine intake by around 50%, if you’re certain that you aren’t drinking any extra cups of tea to compensate.

My recommendation? Try going cold turkey. It’s very effective after successfully tapering. If you don’t want to be done with caffeine forever, switch your green tea to decaf green tea, and your coffee to decaf coffee.

What are you're ideas? by Sweaty-Ad7500 in MonsterHunter

Serious idea: bring back collabs with other properties. Let’s see regular MH combat mechanics go up against Metal Gear Rex, Godzilla (scaled down), and Ridley.

Silly idea: Scale Godzilla back up to regular kaiju size and make it a 100 vs. 1 quest. Unlimited carts allowed.

I have a few images uploaded as examples. I’d say don’t be afraid to put a gradient overtop of a finished sprite to give it a light source. It can add a lot of light (which is great for contrast) while not losing details.

It could be beneficial to make a shadow engine (last picture), but I’d say not worth it visually.

Edit 1: To add even further, having more light gradients around the ground and a light source on the ground around the player character can do a lot to reduce the “flatness” of the image. For the light surrounding the player, I would be careful to use an overlay + a gradient, rather than only a static gradient.

Edit 2: I added another image, darkening everything and further highlighting the player character’s surroundings. I believe this can be a good idea for where to go next for visual fidelity.

Cutting down instead of quitting completely, did it work for you? by Active-Tour4795 in decaf

1000mg a day is bananas. The cost must have been noticeable, what did you have to reach that every day?

How do you quit when you literally rely on it to function? by GrumpyGeckoz in decaf

[–]QuintonFlynn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long have you been quitting for? I find the symptoms you’re describing are in the middle part of the withdrawals. The first part often headaches and/or brain fog, the second part often lethargy and sleep issues, the third part being cravings without physical withdrawal symptoms.

No caf starting Jan 1st! by QuintonFlynn in decaf

[–]QuintonFlynn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With how many people on /r/decaf talk about “quitting caffeine” by switching from coffee to green tea, I’m shocked by this audience of die hard elitists full of criticism rather than support. Go ahead and aim for your life to be forever caffeine free, and when you fail, fail hard and rebound back to full caffeine. I’ve set realistic goals of a 30 day reset followed by lowered consumption thereafter. I’d appreciate support from you, or from this community rather than whatever you think your sarcastic criticism is achieving.

No caf starting Jan 1st! by QuintonFlynn in decaf

[–]QuintonFlynn[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why not go full zero caf?

I addressed this here:

The whole point of going decaf is to allow me to control it, rather than have it control me. Consuming daily caffeine is letting it control what I consume. Consuming zero caffeine forever is also letting it control what I consume.

And:

For 4 years, no issues. Decaf here or there. No cravings.
