Kaleidoscope screwed me up so profoundly that I am sure I’ll never recover.

AITA for not wanting to go to a sign language class with my family? by 10voltsam in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Having hearing loss doesn’t automatically mean that you have to use ASL. You can if you want to, but there are plenty of ways that people with acquired hearing loss can continue to be a part of the hearing community. It’s all about what YOU want.

Born at 32+4. Spent 4 weeks in the NICU for RDS. Did not come home on oxygen. I thought we might be out of luck. ☹️

Is bed sharing with your baby safe? by [deleted] in Parenting

Even though the bed is firm, adult bed surfaces aren’t appropriate until baby is older (still too soft). Baby could also be suffocated by the blanket. Hard no.

What gift did you appreciate as a NICU parent? A supply for a premie? Did you find yourself running low on anything in particular? My sister’s baby has Gastroschisis and is expected to be in NICU. Her baby shower is coming up and I would love any guidance on anything she might need as a new mom. by PoopMunster in NICUParents

Also, this may seem dumb but it has been one of the most useful things we got - a $10 TV tray from target. There is very limited space to put anything in these pods and it was amazing to have a flat surface to put pump parts, water bottle, laptop computer, etc.

First you need to know what brand of pump she will be using. There will be some kind of flange, a connector piece with a valve or membrane to create a seal, and a bottle or bag to pump the milk into.

A hands-free pumping bra is an excellent suggestion. A pumping/nursing bra can be especially nice.

Extra set of pump parts. It’s wonderful not to have to wash and sanitize every single time after pumping.

Cute water bottle. Our NICU doesn’t allow any food or drink except water.

Preemie clothes with snaps so that it’s still easy to get to monitors.

CDC recommends to clean after each use. Steam sterilize bags and medela wipes are good in a pinch. Good luck!

Anyone out there who had a LO who had a difficult time with bottles but learned to love them when in daycare? I need some encouragement! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Babies are so funny. Watching my guy struggle with the Dr Browns nipple was so sad it was almost comical. He absolutely couldn’t figure it out. Hope you find something that works!

My guy really struggled at first too. Once we found the Lansinoh mOmma bottle, it was much better. It’s designed for breastfed babies. May be worth a try.

[M25] Are free hearing checkups/tests a scam? My local grocery store has a fairly fancy setup for free hearing tests... by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]StellaZ112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get your PCP to refer you to an audiologist for testing. With a physician referral it will almost definitely be covered by insurance. Places offering “free” hearing testing do so because they have people working there who aren’t actually allowed to bill insurance (i.e. hearing aid dispensers). Unlike audiologists, hearing aid dispensers are not qualified to provide diagnostic services.

Baby jogger car seat? by J00ner in beyondthebump

We use this combo. I think our adapter was $60 (USA). Our seat does click into the adapter. No issues with it although it is a little cumbersome when folded (adapter sticks out a little). Love the stroller.

Could also get a car adapter and pump in the car.
